Now a member of Lukko in the Finnish league. Jurcina can be ignored in all formats.
Jurcina is unlikely to play for the Islanders this season as he just doesn't add much offensively to the squad. He will look for a job during camp and should find one when a team suffers a rash of injuries on the blue line. Jurcina has managed 28 points in 111 games with the Isles the last two seasons.
Jurcina was having a solid season for the Islanders last year before a hip injury sent him to the sidelines in January. He is completely healed and gives the Islanders a solid defenseman who may be paired with Mark Streit as the Isles' No. 1 duo.
Jurcina was signed to a one-year deal by the Isles this past off-season. Islander fans were once again left scratching their heads after this move. Jurcina is the type of player they have plenty of, someone who doesn't light the lamp all that often with little to no upside.
Jurcina is a defensive minded player who recorded his first season with over ten points (14) in his career. He will likely be on the third defensive unit again this season. Jurcina has seen a great amount of ice time over the years, but has produced just 46 points in 275 career games. He played 79 games last season scoring three goals and adding 11 assists. He is valuable to the Caps, but has no fantasy value.
Jurcina is a defensive minded player who has never recorded over ten points in his career. He will likely be on the third defensive unit again this season. Jurcina has seen a great amount of ice time over the years, but has produced just 32 points in 196 career games. He played 75 games last season scoring one goal and adding 8 assists. He is valuable to the Caps, but has no fantasy value.
In the doghouse in Boston last season, Jurcina saw a resurgence after being dealt to the Capitals, putting up nine points in 30 games while leading Caps' defensemen with a plus-5 rating. He won't put up many points, but will likely be paired with fellow former Bruin Shaone Morrisonn to form the Caps' top shut-down defensive pairing.
Jurcina came on suddenly last season and may prove to be quite a sleeper this year. He's incredibly agile for a big man (6'4" and 235 lbs) and he has a nice, heavy shot from the blue line. With a little more experience, this kid could do some fantasy damage. Monitor him this season and be prepared to stash him on your bench for next season.
Jurcina is slowly climbing the depth chart in Boston, and there's an outside chance he'll break camp with the big club.
