RotoWire's Preseason Outlooks
There was no outlook written for Kevin Westgarth.
Westgarth has just nine points in 121 games over the past three seasons. The only fantasy formats where he boasts any kind of value are in those that value penalty minutes - he was fourth on the 'Canes last season with 45 PIM in 31 games.
Westgarth's impact is limtied to those leagues that count PIMs, but he took a step back even in those formats with just 39 PIMs in 25 games. The Kings have a host of bodies able to fill a bottom-six role so Westgarth doesn't have a guaranteed spot on the roster as training camp opens.
Westgarth has three points in 65 games at the NHL level so his only value is going to come from taking trips to the sin bin. He recorded 105 PIMs in 59 games last year for the Kings so he's not one of the top goons out there by any stretch. He'll be back in a similar role for the Kings again this year.
Westgarth spent the entire season in Manchester of the AHL, logging over 160 PIMs for the third straight season. If he can crack the Kings' lineup he could be the team's designated enforcer and be a nice source of PIMs but may need to do more than just drop the gloves to stay in the lineup.
Westgarth was once again intimately familiar with the sin bins of the AHL last year, racking up 165 PIMs in 65 games. If he cracks the Kings' lineup on a nightly basis he'll be a nice source of PIMs but that's all he brings to the table.
