Metropolit signed a two year deal with EV Zug in Switzerland. Unfortunately with the new salary cap we are going to see more of this where aging vets will take less money with better tax benefits outside North America and organizations will have to settle for cheap rookie contracts to fill rosters.
Metropolit is in Bruins training camp trying to win a job.
The Thrashers signed Metropolit -- who played in Switzerland last season -- in the hopes he can help fill some of the void created by Marc Savard’s and Patrick Stefan’s departure. He’ll be competing with Bobby Holik, Jim Slater, Steve Rucchin and Niko Kapanen for one of the four centre position. It’s likely that one of the five swings over to the wing -- probably either Slater or Metropolit. Unless he somehow manages to get himself on a line with either Marian Hossa or Ilya Kovalchuk (which we don’t anticipate happening) he won’t have any fantasy value this season. Best case situation has him netting around 40 points.
