The 30-year-old Schaefer, who figures to see most of his work next season for AHL Providence, gives the B's organization some veteran depth between the pipes.
The Wild will be pretty set this season in goal with Nicklas Backstrom and Josh Harding, but Schaefer could be in line for a call up if either goes down with an injury.
Schaefer will likely be third on the depth chart at goalie, but won't get a chance with the Wild with both Niklas Backstrom and Josh Harding set as the two goalies with the Wild. He'll be the starting goalie at Houston of the AHL as a result.
He's proven to be better than anyone expected, but as the third goalie in a two-goalie rotation, there's no reason to get invested.
