RotoWire's Preseason Outlooks
There was no outlook written for Michal Barinka.
Barinka will remain with Vitkovice HC of the Czech League this season. He's not expected to play with the Senators this year, if ever. In 47 games last season, Barinka recorded two goals and nine assists.
Barinka will spend the 2008-09 season playing in the Czech Republic for HC Vítkovice of the Czech Extraliga league. There is no word yet on whether or not he'll return to North America after leaving the Ottawa Senators' AHL affiliate in Binghamton in 2006.
It appears that Barinka won't be heading back to Ottawa any time soon as he has apparently refused to play in the NHL for Ottawa. The 23-year-old defenseman will continue to play in the Czech Republic for the foreseeable future while Ottawa retains his rights.
As one of the players acquired in the Martin Havlat trade, the young defenseman certainly has a future with the Senators. Although he won't crack the lineup this year due to Ottawa's depth at the blueline, Barinka could be called up if a rash of injuries were to occur. He'll spend his time in the AHL this year and has little fantasy value.
