Past Fantasy Outlooks
Cann began his professional career last season in the AHL after signing a three-year entry-level contract with Colorado. However, his debut was less than stellar, as he posted a 3-6-1 record in 13 games with the Lake Erie Monsters, along with a 3.58 GAA and .884 SV%. He then spent some time in the CHL with the Tulsa Oilers where his numbers were significantly better (11-6-1, 2.81 GAA, .915 SV%). Cann remains a goalie of the future for the Avs, but he will first need to establish himself in the AHL before he has any chance of catching on with the big club.
Cann signed a pro contract with the Avalanche in May 2009. He will have to play exceptionally well in order to make the Avs out of training camp and will likely begin the 2009-10 season in Lake Erie of the AHL.
The 19-year old netminder has posted OK numbers the past three seasons with Peterborough of the OHL. His SV% is always north of .900 but his GAA has been around 3.50, which speaks to his tendency to give up the odd bad goal or two. He's still a work in progress and is not likely to land in the NHL anytime soon.
Cann was reassigned to Lake Erie of the American Hockey League in Sept. 2007.
We're not big on Cann or any goalie from the 2007 class -- it's a weak year for twine-tenders. He manages rebounds well but he just lets in too many softies for our taste. Perhaps some strong coaching could pull him into a starting role some day but we think he's more likely bound to be a solid backup.
