RotoWire's Preseason Outlooks
There was no outlook written for Mattias Ritola.
Ritola was restricted to just 31 games with the Bolts last year because of Meniere's disease, a disorder of the inner ear that can affect both hearing and balance. It was at its worst during descents on the team plane and it left him, quite literally, deaf and puking. Hearing aids designed to manage the inner ear pressures seemed to help but it remains to be seen if they'll work over the long term. He's a creative player with nice, soft hands who could really help the Bolts' PK if he's healthy. His fantasy value is minimal, though.
Ritola isn't a highly-touted prospect with endless offensive upside, but he projects a fourth -- possibly third -- line player because of a solid two-way game. Despite the limited ceiling, Ritola scored 42 points in 66 games at Grand Rapids last season, where he'll likely be asked to provide similar production again this season after the Wings made some internal promotions to fill their own scoring needs this summer.
Prospect struggling to potentially make the club.
