Armstrong signed on with the Flames after spending five years in the San Jose Sharks' system. He managed to appear in two games for the Sharks last season and will start the year with Calgary's AHL affiliate the Abbotsford Heat. He is not expected to make an impact with the Flames this season.

The 23-year-old Armstrong is still developing in the AHL. In 2007-08, he pitched in 34 points (15G,19A) for Worcester, a minor league affiliate of the San Jose Sharks. It's premature to expect the winger to be ready for the NHL this year, although a rash of injuries at forward could prompt the Sharks to consider his services.
