RotoWire's Preseason Outlooks
There was no outlook written for Carl Klingberg.
Last season was Klingbergís best as a professional, as the 23-year-old tallied career-high 22 goals and 21 assists for AHL St. Johnís. He also earned a three-game appointment to the Jets in the second half, recording his first career NHL goal during that time. The former second-round pick in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft re-signed with Winnipeg on a one-year, two-way contract in July, but it doesnít appear the parent club has any major plans for him to take on a greater role anytime soon. Heíll likely shuttle back and forth between the Jets and St. Johnís during the upcoming season as injuries inevitably open up a temporary spot with the NHL squad, with Klingberg doubtful to receive sustained look in a top-six role at any point.
Klingberg made is NHL debut in the last game of the regular season with the Thrashers last year. He exhibits quick feet and likes to drive to the net to create chances, but he'll have to exhibit an exceptional training camp in order to gain an NHL roster spot for the 2011-12 season. Because of that, he should not be a factor in your fantasy draft this year.
Klingberg scored just 13 points in his first full season with Frolunda in the Swedish Elite League last year. His size and aggressive style of play was good enough for the Thrashers to sign the 19 year old to an entry level contract back in June. Klingberg has a lot of upside, but he is an underdog in terms of playing in the NHL this coming season and will most likely be headed back to Sweden following training camp.
