ANALYSIS
Petersen -- who was drafted in the fourth round of the 2009 NHL Draft -- never earned his way onto the Penguins' roster, instead bouncing between the AHL and ECHL. Although the 28-year-old has not found success in North America, he seems to be thriving in Germany as a nearly point per game scorer (.85). At this point, it seems unlikely the winger will get another shot in the NHL, but given his performance overseas, it is probably too early to rule out entirely.

Petersen has spent the last couple years bouncing between the AHL and ECHL after graduating from the QMJHL. The 23-year-old winger netted 11 goals and 27 points in 52 contests for Wilkes Barre (AHL). Most likely, Petersen will need to put in a full season with the Baby Pens before there's talk of him joining the Penguins in any role. The 2010 fourth-rounder faces a make-or-break season with the organization.
Petersen, a fourth-round pick in 2009, scored 24 goals and 57 points in 40 games for ECHL Wheeling in 2010-11. He's a proven scorer from his days in the QMJHL, where he totaled 37 and 39 goals, respectively, in the past two seasons. The 21-year-old winger looks to spend the majority of 2011-12 with the Wilkes-Barre Baby Penguins as he gains experience in his second professional season. Another strong campaign will put him firmly in the prospect camp.
Petersen collected 39 goals, 79 points and a plus-46 rating in 59 games for St. John of the QMJHL in 2009-10. Taken in the fourth round of the 2009 draft, Petersen will likely spend a bit more time in the QMJHL before moving on the the minors. He's worth watching from a fantasy perspective, but is a few years away.
