RotoWire's Preseason Outlooks
There was no outlook written for Eric Wellwood.
Wellwood suffered a gruesome leg injury in April, cutting himself on his own skate's blade. Prior to the injury, he posted 17 points in 58 games -- not enough to turn any heads nor enough to earn him significant NHL time this season.
Wellwood bounced between the AHL and NHL last season but did manage to make the Flyers’ roster for all 11 playoff games. In 24 games last season the winger posted nine points. He’s likely a season or two away from making a large impact offensively, but Wellwood has serious potential. Wellwood is an excellent skater and established himself as a solid checking forward during the playoffs last season.
Wellwood was just a sixth-round draft choice in 2009, but has already seen a bit of time with the Flyers, appearing in three games last season. He managed 28 points in 73 games at the AHL level a season ago. The 21-year-old will likely need some more seasoning, but he projects as a solid two-way prospect in the coming seasons.
