The Avalanche have dealt Montgomery to Edmonton for Shawn Belle, reports TSN's Bob McKenzie.

ANALYSIS
Montgomery is young at 22 and showed a little bit of offensive ability in juniors, but has just 27 points in 126 AHL games. He's an AHL depth guy for the time being.

Since being acquired from Colorado in 2011, Montgomery has been a disappointment. He only has four goals in 64 games over two seasons for Oklahoma City of the AHL which is not a good thing seeing as he's supposed excel offensively. Montgomery is a long way from Edmonton.

Edmonton acquired Montgomery at the trade deadline last season from Colorado. The problem is, for a defenseman who is supposed to be offensively gifted, he only has five goals and 29 assists in more than 140 AHL games. Montgomery will just be depth at the AHL level for Edmonton this season.
