Some of the biggest hockey names in Carolina originally hail from Finland --forwards Jussi Jokinen and Tuomo Ruutu come to mind, and there is also defensemen Joni Pitkanen -- so it wasn’t a big surprise to see the club take a chance on Kivisto, a lesser-known Finn who signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the club in July of 2011. His past two seasons were spent playing in the Finnish league with Jokerit, a team he is likely to remain with for the upcoming campaign.
