RotoWire's Preseason Outlooks
Sundstrom had 11 goals and 32 points for Bridgeport of the AHL last season and is ticketed for another season there. He is likely to get some playing time with the Islanders as the need arises but it will likely be as a bottom six forward.
Sundstrom has been somewhat underwhelming while playing in Sweden the past couple seasons, scoring seven goals in 90 games. Those numbers will certainly have to pick up in order for Sundstrom to have a chance at making the Islanders' roster after signing a three-year, entry-level contract in June.
The Islanders took Sundstrom in the fifth round of the draft this past June. He only had one goal in 41 games in the Swedish Elite League, so that will have to change in order for him to have a shot with the Islanders. Either way, he is years away from sniffing pro ice.
