RotoWire's Preseason Outlooks

2014-15

There was no outlook written for Gemel Smith.

2012-13

Smith was taken in the fourth round of the 2011 draft as Dallas looked to restock centers in the system. He's been compared to a Steve Ott-type player, showing solid checking and hitting skills with a little offense mixed in. He's small, even by today's NHL standards, which will likely limit him to a third-line role, but that's a role that Ott filled for years with good success in Dallas.
