Calvillo defeated Joanne Calderwood via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28) at UFC Fight Night on Sunday in Glasgow, Scotland
For fans and supporters of Calvillo, this was a very hard fight to watch. She had a clear and present advantage on the ground. At the end of the first and third rounds, she was able to land a quick takedown and nearly finish via submission before the bell. However, other than those two occasions, she did virtually nothing besides bounce around on the outside. It appeared as if Calvillo would have easily finished if she truly committed to the takedown. In the end, she took the decision and will continue to move forward as a prospect.

Fantasy AnalysisCalvillo joined the UFC in March 2017 and has already racked up two wins, both gained with a rear-naked choke submission. She has a 5-0 record that doesn't show her to prefer a wrestling style over stand-up fighting, but from a small statistical sampling, she has a 100 percent takedown accuracy with 1.76 takedowns landed every 15 minutes. This should come in handy against Joanne Calderwood, who appears to be more of a striker.
Fantasy AnalysisCalvillo now has back-to-back wins in her first two UFC fights in a span of 35 days. That's the good news. The bad news is that the competition has been exceedingly poor. Calvillo is strong, and she's definitely tough, but she doesn't appear to have the skills of a top strawweight. Granted, we won't know that for sure until she is in the cage with better fighters. Team Alpha Male is very high on her.
Fantasy AnalysisCalvillo's opponent was originally pulled from the card after weigh-ins due to a violation of NYSAC rules, but the commission reconsidered and allowed the fight to go on as planned. The 29-year-old, Team Alpha Male product is 1-0 in the UFC, and had been the betting favorite prior to all of Friday's chaotic events.
Fantasy AnalysisAlthough Calvillo's opponent was medically cleared beforehand to fight, Gonzalez was ultimately a late removal due to an old rule in the state of New York. With the scheduled fight just over 24 hours away, there won't be time to schedule a replacement opponent.
Fantasy AnalysisCalvillo made her professional debut seven months ago and on Saturday she earned the win on the main card of a UFC pay-per-view. The finish was beautiful, as was her positioning on the ground, but there is a high likelihood, like 75%-plus, that Calvillo's strong effort was simply the result of facing a terrible opponent, but we won't know that until her next performance. It's hard to foresee big things from a fighter who is already 29-years-old and has just four pro fights under her belt. She is getting elite training every day at Team Alpha Male, however.
