RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Choi has withdrawn from his UFC 214 featherweight matchup against Andre Fili, Damon Martin of Fox Sports reports.

Choi turned the heads of fight fans when his matchup against Cub Swanson -- a narrow loss -- turned into one of the best fights of 2016. He has a tremendously stout chin and throws a high volume of strikes (5.58 significant strikes landed per minute), but supporters will have to wait a little while longer to see him in the Octagon again. Meanwhile, Fili still hopes to fight on the card and is awaiting a new opponent.

Choi will face Andre Fili in a featherweight bout at UFC 214 on July 29 at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Lance Pugmire of the Los Angeles Timesreports.

Fantasy Analysis

Choi can take major punishment (average 6.19 significant strikes per minute) while dishing it out (5.58 strikes per minute). "The Korean Superboy" has a 14-2 record (3-1 UFC) with 11 KO/TKOs. His lone UFC loss comes from a close decision against Cub Swanson in December.
Choi lost to Cub Swanson via unanimous decision (27-30, 27-30, 28-29) at UFC 206 on Saturday in Toronto.

Fantasy Analysis

Choi may have suffered the first loss of his UFC career, but the truth of the matter is that both men are winners after one of the greatest fights of recent memory. Choi was the sharper of the two men early on, although it seemed like both fighters have multiple opportunities to end the fight in all three rounds. We've never really seen Choi get hit before in his brief UFC run, but boy, can he eat a punch. He lost the total strike battle by a count of 122-87, although the vast majority of Swanson's advantage came late in the fight. All you need to know about Choi's effort is that a 25-year-old kid from South Korea who doesn't speak a word of English got a standing ovation in Toronto during his post-fight interview in a fight that he lost. As Shaun Al-Shatti of MMAFighting.com mentioned, it's a shame that we are going to lose him to his mandatory two-year military service in the near future.
Choi will face Cub Swanson at UFC 206 on Dec. 10 in Toronto, MMAFighting.com reports.

Fantasy Analysis

Choi is 3-0 in the UFC with three first-round stoppages, but the 25-year-old prospect desperately needed a bout against a higher caliber opponent to prove to the promotion's brass how good he could actually be. Cub Swanson, the No. 5-ranked featherweight, is the man for the job. Going up against a veteran brawler like Swanson almost certainly means Choi will enter as the underdog, but an upset victory here could propel him to the UFC's top-10 featherweights.
Choi defeated Sam Sicilia via KO (Punches) at 1:33 of Round 1 at UFC Fight Night 79 on Saturday in Seoul, South Korea.

Fantasy Analysis

While it comes as a mild concern that "The Korean Superboy" was rocked early on versus Sicilia, Choi finished the job with a right hook KO in his second UFC fight. Choi has now achieved two finishes in his UFC career in under two minutes. To continue climbing the UFC ladder, Choi will need a quicker turnaround between fights (his last turnaround lasted over a year), and will require a step up in competition. An opponent who will drag Choi into deeper waters will give us a better idea of his skillset.
