Defoe is hoping to earn a spot back in the England squad after making the switch back to the Premier League with Sunderland after missing out of the World Cup just after moving to Toronto F.C., reports the Daily Mail.

Defoe learned he would be losing his spot in the England squad last May ahead of the World Cup. The veteran striker is hoping that performing well in the Premier League will catch the attention of England manager Roy Hodgson, and earn him a recall to the team.
