McCarthy made three saves and conceded twice while making a rare start in Sunday's 2-1 defeat to Liverpool.

With Wayne Hennessey sidelined, it was McCarthy, not Julian Speroni, who got the nod between the sticks and that decision backfired. After a relatively quiet opening hour for McCarthy, he made a massive blunder that gave Roberto Firmino an open goal to equalize. He was then unlucky to see Christian Benteke given a spot kick in the 96th minute, which he converted. After a strong-enough collection of matches in the opening six fixtures of the season, conceding once in five-of-six, this was his first action since. Hennessey will likely regain his place in the starting XI upon his return, but in the interim, it could be McCarthy or Speroni in goal.

McCarthy (fitness) will be available off the bench on Saturday against Southampton.

After starting the first six matches, McCarthy was moved to the bench after allowing a bad goal to Spurs and eventually saw himself outside the dressed 18. After a lengthy spell outside the squad—six Premier League matches in all—he'll return to the bench against Southampton.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

McCarthy is available off the bench Sunday against Watford, with Wayne Hennessey getting the start in his place.

McCarthy let in a soft goal last weekend against Spurs and there was talk that he could lose his spot because of it. Both players are seeing more opportunities with Julian Speroni still working on his match fitness following his recovery from a finger injury, and as soon as he gets there, he'll reclaim the starting job.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

McCarthy should retain his place in the starting XI against Watford despite letting in a soft goal against Tottenham that lost Palace the match, Mark Ritson of the Croydon Advertiser reports.

With Julian Speroni lacking match fitness thanks to a finger injury and the associated layoff, McCarthy has started each of the team's first six matches. While he's yet to record a clean sheet, he's allowed more than one goal just once this season and led palace to a victory against Chelsea with an eight save outing. Upon Speroni's return, which may not be for another few matches, McCarthy may cede his starting spot, but until then, he's performed admirably enough to keep Palace competitive.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

McCarthy failed to keep a clean sheet in Sunday's 1-0 loss to Tottenham.

McCarthy was beaten by a shot at his near post by Tottenham forward Heung-Min Son that he should have done better with and made five saves. The English stopper's place could now be under threat with Julian Speroni fit again after a finger injury.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

McCarthy is expected to start Sunday against Tottenham despite Julian Speroni (finger) returning to full training, the Croydon Advertiser reports.

McCarthy has played reasonably well in place of Speroni, who also played in an U-21 match as part of his recovery, though it's unlikely that the former has unseated the latter on a full-time basis.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

McCarthy made six saves in Saturday's 1-0 loss to Man City.

McCarthy had a solid game but was arguably at fault for the only goal of the game when he parried a Samir Nasri's effort into the path of Kelechi Iheanacho during injury time.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

McCarthy made seven saves in Saturday's 2-1 win against Chelsea.

McCarthy is still yet to keep a clean sheet in his new colours, however, he did prevent Chelsea levelling the game up by making a string of impressive saves. It remains to be seen whether manager Alan Pardew reinstalls long-time number one Julian Speroni (finger) to the starting XI following the international break.
