Manchester United manager David Moyes may consider Lovren (groin) as a potential replacement for the departing Nemanja Vidic, reports the Daily Mail.

Lovren has made 23 appearances for Southampton so far this season, and is currently recovering from a groin injury. Moyes continues to scout replacements for many positions as he attempts to rebuild the team, and Lovren is one United have been keeping an eye on.

Lovren picked up a knock in the 95th minute of Saturday's 4-2 win over Norwich City.

Lovren appeared to have a great clean sheet opportunity Saturday against Norwich City, but two goals after 80th minute took that away. The knock came late in the match, so it is unclear how serious it was, as Southampton had already made their three substitutions in the match.

Lovren had been one of Southampton's best defenders this season, so it's obviously a big hit to the team. Teammate Gaston Ramirez suffered a similar injury and faces the same amount of time out.

Lovren suffered ligament damage to his ankle during last weekend's match against Sunderland and will now face an undetermined period of time on the sidelines, the Daily Mail reports.

Lovren, who tallied seven clean sheets, two goals, and one assist before going down, ranked among fantasy's best defenders to this point in the season. Since medical testing is still ongoing, Lovren has yet to receive a definitive timetable for his recovery. Nonetheless, the Croatian figures to not be available in the near future, which should test the depth of Southampton's central defense.

There hasn't been any announcement from Southampton regarding the severity of Lovren's injury, which he suffered in Saturday's match against Sunderland, but crutches and a walking boot don't seem to imply that he'll be returning in short order.

Lovren was unable to play against Cardiff City on Thursday after being taken ill prior to the match.

While Lovren has one goal and one assist in Premier League play this season, he primarily relies on clean sheets for his fantasy value. Unfortunately, that hasn't happened in seven consecutive matches.
