Lovren is in the starting XI for Liverpool's Premier League opener against Southampton on Sunday.

Lovren unsurprisingly gets the start against the club he forced his way out of after just one season. After struggling to stop opposing attacks last season, Lovren is part of the post-Suarez makeover to be a more balanced team.

Lovren featured and scored a goal in Liverpool's 4-0 preseason defeat of German club Borussia Dortmund on Sunday.

Lovren's debut couldn't have gone much smoother as he picked up a clean sheet and scored a goal before receiving his first Anfield bow. Despite limited time training with the squad, after a visa issue prevented the Croatian from meeting up with Liverpool on their USA tour, Lovren looks like a solid option for gameweek 1 where he will take on his former club, Southampton, in his new home on Merseyside.

Lovren is expected to undergo a medical for Liverpool on Saturday ahead of a 20 million move from Southampton, The Guardian reports.

After bagging 75 million in the Luis Suarez sale, Liverpool continue to spend. Lovren made it quite clear earlier this summer that he wanted a move to Liverpool, and he will be a very helpful piece in the back line.

Lovren is expected to complete a transfer to Liverpool in a 20 million move from Southampton, Tony Barrett of The Times reports.

Lovren has all but given up on playing for Southampton this season and has done all he can to force a move to Anfield. He should be an immediate starter if he joins the Reds and he could be a valuable fantasy asset this season.

Southampton have reportedly rejected a bid by Liverpool for Lovren, as they look for more than 20 million for their starting centerback, The Guardian reports.

Lovren joined Southampton just last summer in an 8.5 million move from Ligue 1 side Lyon, so they're clearly going to make a nice profit on the defender. Southampton have already sent Adam Lallana and Rickie Lambert to Anfield, so finishing this deal doesn't appear to be a longshot.

Manchester United manager David Moyes may consider Lovren (groin) as a potential replacement for the departing Nemanja Vidic, reports the Daily Mail.

Lovren has made 23 appearances for Southampton so far this season, and is currently recovering from a groin injury. Moyes continues to scout replacements for many positions as he attempts to rebuild the team, and Lovren is one United have been keeping an eye on.

Lovren picked up a knock in the 95th minute of Saturday's 4-2 win over Norwich City.

Lovren appeared to have a great clean sheet opportunity Saturday against Norwich City, but two goals after 80th minute took that away. The knock came late in the match, so it is unclear how serious it was, as Southampton had already made their three substitutions in the match.
