Gayle scored after just 30 seconds before limping off in Saturday's 3-3 draw at Newcastle.

Gayle followed up Marouane Chamakh's saved effort to smash the ball past Newcastle keeper Tim Krul before coming off injured in the 70th minute. Gayle was starting for the first time in the league this season after replacing Fraizer Campbell in the starting line-up and took his chance. Gayle has a terrific strike rate in the Premier League and if he stays in the side will be good for at least eight to 10 goals this season.

Gayle scored a hat trick in the first 45 minutes of Tuesday’s 3-1 win at Walsall in the Capital One Cup second round.

Gayle started his first game of the season and had three goals after just 41 minutes of the encounter with the League One side before being replaced in the 61st minute. Gayle was joint top scorer for Crystal Palace last season with seven league goals and is pushing hard for the sole striker spot ahead of Saturday’s game at Newcastle. His rival for that position is Fraizer Campbell, who hasn’t scored in his first two games, and neither seems that good an option fantasy-wise given Newcastle’s solid start at the back.

Gayle entered Monday's match against Liverpool in the 65th minute as a substitute. He wasted no time in scoring two goals on three shot attmempts to help Crystal Palace earn a 3-3 draw.

Gayle returned just a week ago from an ankle injury and has found time on the pitch as a substitute in both matches. Earning just seven starts in 22 appearances has limited his fantasy value but he has scored five goals including four when coming on as a substitute.
