Gayle (hamstring) is close to fitness but will not play Saturday against Newcastle.

With Connor Wickham and Marouane Chamakh both fit enough, Gayle wasn't likely to get much playing time anyway.

Gayle (hamstring) will miss Monday's match against Sunderland.

Gayle was injured in training ahead of Palace's final match before the international break and missed the team's victory over Liverpool. With Marouane Chamakh out of the side for the first couple of months, Gayle has had trouble staying in the side and has no goals in Premier League play, but does have four in three matches in the league cup. He should return ahead of the heavy slate of holiday fixtures.

Gayle (hamstring) was injured in training, ultimately keeping him sidelined during the Nov. 8 2-1 victory over Liverpool.

Gayle had scored four goals in his three Premier League appearances this season, and it looked as though he could have held the starting role prior to his injury.

Gayle received his marching orders whilst picking up an assist in Saturday's 3-1 loss to West Ham.

Gayle picked up a pair of bookings in the first 45 minutes after making two rash challenges to put his side at a distinct disadvantage. Gayle was able to, however, win his side a penalty in the 25th minute, which was converted by Yohan Cabaye.

Gayle will play some part in Saturday's game against West Bromwich Albion, according to manager Alan Pardew.

Gayle enjoyed his first start of the season in Sunday's 1-0 win at Watford and is in manager Alan Pardew's good books as a result. "I was very impressed. If he'd scored those two goals he'd have been man of the match," Pardew said of Gayle's performance. The striker has been given a chance in the side after notching a hat trick in last week's 4-1 Capital One Cup win over Charlton Athletic. With Wickham and Chamakh injured, Gayle has a real chance to stake a claim for the top spot as Palace's lone striker and a good performance on Saturday would do him no harm.

Gayle is in the starting XI for Tuesday's match against Southampton.

Gayle was replaced by Glenn Murray last weekend, the latter of which bagged a brace, but he also picked up a red card, and with a number of other injuries up front, Gayle will slot back into the starting XI. Unfortunately, it comes against a Southampton side that has been one of the best defensively at home this season.
