Manchester United have sent Nani on loan to Sporting Lisbon, the BBC reports.

Seven years after Nani left Sporting, he returns as a player who could barely find time at Manchester United and was not a part of new manager Louis van Gaal's plans this season. The good news is that he now has an opportunity to play Champions League football this season.

Nani came on for Chicharito at half time of Manchester United's 2-1 loss to Swansea City on Saturday. Nani was brought in to help the attack, but finished with zero shots on goal.

Chicharito only got the start because Robin van Persie and Danny Welbeck (knee) were out, and Nani only got in due to Chicharito's ineffectiveness. Manager Louis van Gaal clearly has not spot for Nani, who has been heavily linked to a move back to Portugal recently.

Nani took an errant clearance from the US' Geoff Cameron and banged home the opening goal in Portugal's 2-2 draw on Sunday at the World Cup.

Nani is coming off a terrible season at Manchester United but got one of the easiest goals in the tournament so far to put Portugal up 1-0. They would eventually lose the lead but Varela saved the day with a goal only seconds from the final whistle. Portugal needs a big win against Ghana on Thursday for a shot at the knockout round.

A potential move to Juventus for Nani has reportedly been blocked by Manchester United's heir-apparent manager Louis van Gaal, according to the Daily Mirror.

Reports suggest that the Italian team has been told that the expected move would be put on hold as Nani is considered as part of Van Gaal's plans for the club. It doesn't appear as though the expected new manager wants to lose Nani prior to taking charge of the club.

Nani returned from a long-absence due to a hamstring injury for last weekend's match against West Ham, although he was an unused substitute. He as then not included in the 18 for Tuesday's Manchester derby.

Nani has not featured for United since December 7 against Newcastle and it is difficult to see where he fits in even when he does return to full fitness.

Nani (hamstring) returned to training this week and is quickly making his way back to fitness, ESPN FC reports. Manager David Moyes said "Nani is back. He had a really bad hamstring injury. But he is back and has trained. Hopefully we get him up to speed very quickly."

Moyes was not specific on when he expects Nani back, although it certainly sounds like he will not play this weekend against Liverpool. His next opportunity to feature after that will come on March 22 against West Ham, and then the Manchester derby on March 25.

Nani is expected to miss another month of action due to his hamstring injury. Manager David Moyes said "Nani has had a bad hamstring injury. He's getting closer now but I think it will be another month until he will be about ready to play."

Nani was rumored to be joining AC Milan during the winter transfer period, but the window closed without a move. As a result of his hamstring injury, it will be awhile before Nani sees the pitch again.

Inter Milan are reportedly interested in bringing Nani (hamstring) to the club on loan with the potential to make the move permanent, reports the Daily Mail.

While Juventus is also interested in the winger, Manchester united have so far avoided sending the player away from the club. Nani has been rumored to be close to exiting United since before David Moyes arrived, and he still remains on the sideline with a hamstring injury.
