Boateng suffered injuries to his ribs, back and neck after being attacked in Kaarst, Germany on Christmas Day, according to Goal.com.

The injuries were considered minor and there is now an open criminal investigation. Boateng joined Schalke this past summer and has been a solid contributor for them. While he was treated for the numerous injuries, it doesn't appear that he'll miss any matches, with Schalke next playing January 26 against Hamburg.

Boateng is in Munich to receive "intense conservative treatment" on his left knee, according to Bundesliga.com.

Boateng suffered the injury during last week's 4-1 win over FC Augsburg and will remain in Munich to undergo further treatments until at least Friday. He will not participate in next Tuesday's World Cup qualifying playoff against Egypt, although it's possible that he can return for Schalke's next Bundesliga match, which comes October 19 against Eintracht Braunschweig. Another scenario has him sitting that match out so that he's ready to face Chelsea in a Champions League group stage match three days later.

Boateng will not play in Ghana's World Cup qualifier against Egypt on October 15, as he will stay in Germany to have his knee examined, Goal.com rpeorts.

Boateng has scored in back-to-back Bundesliga matches for Schalke and fantasy owners are likely fine with the decision to not play for Ghana during the international break. He'll look to continue his goal streak on October 19 when the Bundesliga schedule starts up again versus TSV Eintracht Braunschweig.

Boateng was in the Starting XI and took four shots, with one on-goal, during Saturday's 2-0 win over Bayer Leverkusen.

Boateng recently transferred from AC Milan in a bit of a surprising move given his active status with the Italian club and his success before the move (he scored two goals in their Champions League qualifier less than two days before the transfer). He'll likely continue to be a powerful piece for Schalke, which also made it into the group stage of the Champions League.
