Cole will make a return to first-team training next week, according to The Official Team Website.

Cole strained his hamstring on Feb. 22 against Tottenham and has been sidlined ever since. If training goes well, next weekend's match versus Sunderland would be his first chance to take the pitch.

Cole came on as a substitute and scored in West Ham's 3-1 win over Burnley on Saturday.

Now that Diafra Sakho and Enner Valencia have reached full fitness and are forming a lethal partnership, Cole has found himself on the outside looking in. We'd stay away from the 31-year-old striker and look elsewhere for forward options.

Cole opened his 2014-15 account by scoring West Ham's final goal in a 3-1 win over Crystal Palace on Saturday.

Cole has been the preferred choice over new arrivals Enner Valencia and Diafra Sakho to open the season, but it's unclear how long that arrangement will last. That being said, Cole didn't hurt his case with a well-taken goal in the 62nd minute to seal the win for West Ham.

Cole got an assist and a goal in West Ham's 3-1 victory over Southampton on Saturday.

Cole, who was a late fitness test due to a back injury, played the full 90 minutes and was the man of the match. With Andy Carroll (suspended) due to return next match against Everton, Cole will most likely return to his role as a substitute for manager Sam Allardyce.

Cole and West Ham have agreed to a new 18-month contract, according to Sky Sports.

Cole's latest short-term agreement with West Ham expired, but the two parties agreed to a slightly longer contract very quickly. Cole has scored four goals in 12 appearances so far this season.

Cole and West Ham learned Monday that the veteran striker's short term contract has expired, the Daily Mirror reports.

News of Cole's free agency came as quite a surprise to the Hammers, who were already hurting for striking options with Andy Carroll not yet fit for a full 90 minutes. It is unclear if West Ham will quickly snatch Cole back up or if another club will move in for his services.
