Peguero isn't a major league hitter just yet, but the Mariners were desperate for a body in left field last season, so Peguero got a shot. The Mariners hope with more minor league seasoning he can develop into a big leaguer. But that won't happen unless he improves his plate discipline and pitch recognition and stops swinging for the fence on every pitch. He totaled 54 strikeouts in 46 games last season with the Mariners and walked only eight times. Peguero has power (six homers), but he slugged only .371. The Mariners have more, and better, outfield options this season, and it would benefit Peguero to stay at Triple-A.
