Sweetney drew coach Scott Skiles' ire due to his weight and lack of conditioning. After starting 30 of 32 games from November-January, Sweetney spent much of the rest of the year as either a DNP-CD or on the court for minimal minutes. Look for him to be a back-up at center and power forward and see between 15-20 minutes nightly.
Sweetney will compete for and likely win the Bulls' starting power forward job, bringing a good deal of rebounding, interior scoring ability and muscle to the position. At 6-8, Sweetney is a little undersized on the defensive end, but Songaila, his primary competition for minutes, isn't a defensive whiz, either. Harrington could cut into the minutes of both players if spotty defense becomes an issue.
Sweetney has the potential to put up very solid numbers - he has excellent hands, a real NBA body, and an array of low-post moves. Unfortunately, the Knicks have an absolute glut at his position - every guy on the New York roster is likely to see some time at the four this year, with the possible exception of Stephon Marbury. If Sweetney can get 30-35 minutes a night, look for 13-15 points and 8-10 boards on a consistent basis.
This rookie out of Georgetown put up great numbers in the tough Big East Conference and will get a chance to contribute while Antonio McDyess is out. Critics cite his height as a big disadvantage but his toughness is not questioned. This will be a "dipping the toes in" first season so he's not worth a selection.
