Past Fantasy Outlooks
2014
2013
Erik Murphy came to Cleveland in the offseason trade that also brought Malcolm Thomas and John Lucas III for Carrick Felix. The former Florida Gator appeared in 24 games with the Chicago Bulls after being drafted in the second round of the 2013 draft. He averaged 2.6 minutes and put up 0.3 points, 0.3 rebounds, and 0.2 blocks per game. The 6-10 forward never played more than 10 minutes and scored a total of six points (two points in three appearances). He was waived by the Bulls in April and picked up by the Jazz, but he did not appear in any games with Utah. If Murphy can earn his way onto the Cavaliers' roster, he could be a decent stretch power forward coming off the bench. As a senior at Florida, he averaged 12.2 points and 5.5 rebounds. That season, he hit 45 percent of his three-pointers with two three-pointers per game. Murphy's father, Jay, played in the NBA from 1984 to 1988 with the Clippers and Bullets. During the Las Vegas Summer League, Murphy was able to get hot and scored 17 points in 22 minutes in a win over Denver. He scored eight total points in the four other games he played in.
Drafted in the second round in June, Murphy will have a small window of opportunity to develop into a stretch-four option off the bench, averaging 43.5 percent from beyond the arc in his college career. He could be a pick-and-pop option in limited minutes, but the Florida product will have to prove a capable defensive rebounder first, an area which he struggled in under Billy Donovan.
