RotoWire's Preseason Outlooks

2014-15

Subscribe now to see our 2014-15 outlook.

2013-14

Evans is the definition of a one-trick pony in the NBA, but his willingness to accept his role as a rebounding specialist has allowed him to carve out a valuable niche in the league. He was the NBA's top per-48 minute rebounder last season (by nearly three per game) and should again play a prominent role as Kevin Garnett's primary backup.

2012-13

Evans, brought in primarily for defensive purposes from the Clippers, is more of an intangibles guy. Great for the real-life squad, but essentially useless in fantasy. He'll act as depth behind Humphries and perhaps occasionally spell Lopez.

2010-11

Evans was the surprise starter at power forward in both of the Raptorsí first two preseason games. There has been some speculation that his inclusion there is merely a ploy to showcase his health for a trade. Assuming the Raptors genuinely like the big man, Evans should play about 20 minutes per game and pull down good rebounding numbers but little else.

2009-10

Evans gives the Raptors a veteran banger off the bench, but the addition of Amir Johnson could make it tough for Evans to pull down the minutes or the rebounds he's used to.

2008-09

Evans will primarily be a bench player this season. He'll be asked to come in to provide energy and rebounding on the second unit. With Dalembert, Brand, and Young now locked in as the starting five, four, and three respectively, Evans will be counted on for much less this season. He'll be backing up Brand this season, which limits his minutes severely as Brand has been a workhorse his whole career and Stefanski has mentioned the possibility of running Brand at the five and Young at the four when Dalembert needs a break. Evans' only real hope of providing significant fantasy production would be if Brand or Dalembert were injured. Even then, he'd have to fight off Speights from claiming those minutes.

2007-08

Evans was traded to the 76ers for Steven Hunter and could start at power forward if he makes a nice impression in training camp. He averaged 4.9 points and 7.0 rebounds last season for the Nuggets and led the league in rebounds per 48 minutes at 19.7.

2006-07

Evans will compete with Joe Smith for the back-up PF job behind starter Kenyon Martin. Even if Evans wins the back-up job he's to one-dimensional (rebounding) to warrant any consideration in fantasy.

2005-06

Evans is a rebounding machine and is gambling if he adds a little offense to his game it will lead to a big payday next season as an unrestricted free agent. Evans signed one-year, $1 million deal this offseason, turning down the Sonics' two-year offer of $5.3 million. New coach Bob Weiss wants Evans to become more involved offensively (Evans says he was told last season by then-coach Nate McMillan not to shoot), but don't expect plays to be called for Evans. Rebounding is his game, and that's why he'll likely beat Vladimir Radmanovic and Nick Collison for the starting power forward job. Evans led the NBA last season in rebounds per minute (1/2.5) and rebound rate (24.1). He's a great source of boards, but he doesn't figure to improve his 4.9 points per game all that much.

2004-05

Evans is a role player whose specialty is rebounding. He averaged 5.4 rebound per game last season in 17.1 minutes per game. Evans started 27 games in 2003-04 and likley will see a similar number of starting asignments this season. The Soncis are weak in the fontcourt, so Evans will get his minutes. His fantasy prospects are less fortunate, though, as he doesn't score and usually doesn't even try.

2003-04

Evans was a nice surprise for the Sonics last season. He led the team in rebounding last year with 6.6 a game. Other than that, he does nothing for a fantasy team.
