RotoWire's Preseason Outlooks

2017-18

Subscribe now to see our 2017-18 outlook.

2016-17

Booker signed a two-year, $18.5 million contract with the Nets in July, stepping into a situation where he'll have a chance to be a full-time starter for the first time in his career. The six-year veteran has started 112 career games, but only seven of those came with the Jazz, with whom he spent the previous two seasons. In 2015-16, Booker averaged 5.9 points, 5.7 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 20.7 minutes per game as the backup to Derrick Favors and, at times, Trey Lyles. Booker s value is borne out more in real-life basketball than in fantasy, but he averaged 10.2 points and 10.0 rebounds per 36 minutes last season, so if his playing time increases in accordance with his projected starting role, he could be a solid source of rebounds in deeper fantasy formats. Of course, Booker isn't going to approach 36 minutes per game, though he should see a noticeable bump, especially considering the relative lack of talent behind him on the depth chart.

2015-16

Booker is slated for another season where he provides help off the bench as he enters his second season in Utah. Altogether, Booker has spent five years in the NBA, and he's almost always been utilized for frontcourt depth. Last season was no different, and he averaged 20 minutes on the court for coach Quin Snyder during 79 total appearances where he accrued 7.2 points, 5.0 rebounds, 1.1 assists, 0.5 steals, and 0.5 blocks per game. Coming into 2015-16, Booker is obviously slated for a very similar role which includes taking a backseat to Derrick Favors and Rudy Gobert while competing for reserve minutes with rookies Trey Lyles and Tibor Pleiss. During the beginning of the season, Booker is expected to have the edge over both Lyles and Pleiss, but he'll constantly be looking over his shoulder at the duo, and by the end of the season there's a chance he could slowly but surely see his playing time decrease. However, Booker only has a one-year contract so he'll undoubtedly be motivated to perform that much better since it will directly affect how much money he makes for years to come.

2014-15

Trevor Booker agreed on a two-year deal with Utah in the offseason and will now spend his fifth season in the NBA under the direction of new head coach Quin Snyder. With the Wizards last season, the 26-year-old averaged 6.8 points, 5.3 rebounds, 0.9 assists, 0.6 steals, and 0.6 blocks in 22 minutes per game. The Clemson product managed to start 45 of the 72 games that he played in for the Wizards but will likely provide relief off the bench in Utah for the likes of Enes Kanter and Derrick Favors. Booker isn't necessarily known for his offensive abilities and is consequentially more regarded for his efforts on the defensive side of the ball. Despite his inconsistencies on offense, Booker showed great shot selection as he finished the year shooting 55 percent from the field. However, he'll likely be a role player off the bench who is firmly in the rotation, while always giving way to Kanter and Favors when they're ready to get back on the court.

2012-13

In his second season, Booker's minutes increased from 16.4 to 25.2 and his production grew in kind, averaging 8.4 points (versus 5.3 last year) and 6.5 rebounds (from 3.9). As expected, his field goal percent dropped slightly from 54.9 to 53.1 percent.

2011-12

Booker suffered a thigh injury during the offseason while playing in Israel, and will miss the majority of camp. He should still be a consistent part of the rotation after earning minutes last year for his physical presence. Booker averaged 5.3 points and 3.9 rebounds in just 16.4 minutes per game last year. He had good numbers for the amount of playing time he saw last year, but he will continue to be a role player with Blatche and McGee ahead of him. Unless one of his teammates gets injured, Booker doesn’t offer much fantasy value.

2010-11

Booker is a 2010 first-round pick who will probably fill an energy role off the bench at least in his first season. He is an undersized power forward who should see action at both forward spots, but will struggle to get consistent minutes. The team liked his play in summer league action.
