RotoWire's Preseason Outlooks

2014-15

There was no outlook written for Brevin Knight.

2008-09

Knight is the most significant offseason acquisition, giving the Jazz a capable veteran backup to Deron Williams at point guard. Knight doesn’t need a lot of minutes to be effective and is a smart distributor with a low A:TO ratio (6.6 apg/2.0 tpg). He won’t get enough minutes in Utah to be worth a spot on fantasy rosters, but if given the opportunity (an injury to Deron Williams), Knight is a nightly starter. Ronnie Brewer: Brewer is the forgotten man in Utah’s starting five. Everyone knows Deron Williams as one of the Association’s top points. Carlos Boozer is a 20-10 man. Mehmet Okur qualifies at center and hits threes, and Andrei Kirileno, just a season or two ago, was a top-10 fantasy player. Then there’s the relatively anonymous Brewer, who more than doubled his production in just about every fantasy hoop category last season, and who could emerge as a real force. In 76 games and starts, Brewer averaged 12 points – up from 4.6 his rookie year, along with 1.8 assists (from 0.4), 2.9 rebounds (from 1.3) and 1.7 steals (0.7). Even his three-point shooting improved, but when the jump is from 0.00 percent to .220, we’re talking about “atrocious” to merely “ghastly.”

2007-08

Knight will be open the season as Sam Cassell’s backup at point guard, but will get the kind of minutes needed to have value. Cassell, turning 38 this season, is unlikely to be able to carry the full load, so even if Knight doesn’t start, he should get between 20-25 minutes a night. And it doesn’t take much with Knight, who averaged 6.6 assists per game in a little over 28 minutes per game while backing up Raymond Felton in Charlotte.

2006-07

With the emergence of Raymond Felton late last year, it appears that Knight's run of surprisingly high assist totals is in jeopardy. It was nice while it lasted. Knight is expected to serve as a backup to Felton this season, and as such probably wont have the opportunity to accumulate the same sort of numbers that he has in his first two years in Charlotte. But he still has the potential for excellent production should Felton get off to a slow start, or if Knight is moved at the trade deadline to a contender that needs help at the point.

2005-06

Knight was one of the pleasant surprises of last season, emerging from years of obscurity to post 10 points and nine assists per game for the expansion Charlotte Bobcats. Knight could fade back into obscurity soon; the ‘Cats drafted Raymond Felton, whom they hope will be their point of the future. But rookie point guards, like rookie quarterbacks, often profit from learning behind a veteran, and the Bobcats aren’t going to rush things. Look for Knight to remain as the starter for at least the first half of the season, and for him to post solid assist numbers once again.

2003-04

Knight played well when Jason Williams was injured, but is good for steals only otherwise.
