Obomanu was released by the Jets on Tuesday, Rich Cimini of ESPNNewYork.com reports.
ANALYSIS
When Obomanu did see the field this year (which wasn't often), he was prone to mental errors. The 29-year-old drew a couple of penalty flags Sunday, and it seems it was the final straw for the Jets' coaching staff.

Obomanu was released by the Seahawks this offseason following the acquisition of Percy Harvin, then later cut by the Jets.
With the release of T.J. Houshmandzadeh and the trade of Deion Branch, Obomanu saw a bigger role with the Seahawks in the second half and made the most of it with 24 catches for 410 yards and two scores over the final eight games. Obomanu's full season per play stats were also strong – 10.1 YPT, 16.5 YPC on 48 looks. At 6-1, 205 and with good speed, Obomanu doesn't possess any special physical attributes, but he's not small, and he was able to get open down the field – four of his 30 catches went for 40 yards or more. Obomanu signed a three-year extension with the team after the season, but he'll have to compete for the No. 3 receiver spot against Golden Tate and Deon Butler, who will all play behind Mike Williams and the newly acquired Sidney Rice.
Obomanu figures to be the victim of a numbers game at the wideout spot in Seattle. The Seahawks likely will keep five receivers. Obomanu enters camp sixth on the depth chart. Even if he makes the team, he likely will see few opportunities. Last season he had just four receptions.
A preseason injury last year ended Obomanu's season before it began. Too bad, too, considering the opportunities he would have received amid all of the casualties Seattle's WR took. He returns this season with a shot at one of the last two wideout spots.
Obomanu greatly benefits from Seattle's lack of options at wideout and, with Deion Branch expected to miss at least the first half of the season, Obomanu has a serious chance to become the Seahawks' third wideout. Though he will have to win the No. 3 spot away from Courtney Taylor, Obomanu could end up being a real sleeper for a team that uses plenty of three-receiver sets. He is someone to keep an eye on that is worth using a late-round flyer on in most leagues.
Obomanu's chances of making roster hinge on how many receivers Seattle keeps. He's fifth on the depth chart heading into training camp but will be pushed by rookie Jordan Kent.
