49ers coach Jim Harbaugh blames Kapernick's early season struggles on a foot injury he suffered in Week 1 against Green Bay and a lack of quality depth at the receiver position, the Sacramento Bee reports.

Kaepernick completed 14-of-24 passes for 153 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions during the 49ers' 23-17 loss to the Seahawks in Sunday's NFC Championship. He also carried the ball 11 times for 130 yards and lost a fumble.

Exclusive Fantasy Analysis (FREE PREVIEW)

This was a tough one for Kaepernick, as he looked like he was in control of this game, right up until the fourth quarter when turnovers cost him in the end. In fact, the final three possessions for San Francisco ended on a Kaepernick turnover. He's going to have to learn to make better decisions, as he forced some passes that just shouldn't have been thrown, but people also need to remember that he's only been a starting quarterback for a season and a half and has plenty of room to grow. If he can improve on the passing aspect next season, while maintaining his strength in the ground attack, he could blossom into a fantastic fantasy option.
As the 49ers starting quarterback, Kaepernick is 1-2 against the Seahawks and is averaging just 182 passing yards and 17.7 rushing yards per game. He has thrown for just two touchdowns and has five interceptions.

Exclusive Fantasy Analysis (FREE PREVIEW)

All eyes will be on Kaepernick this week in the NFC championship game as he makes his fourth start against the league's top-ranked defense. Many consider this to be another defining moment in his career as he attempts to silence his critics and dispel the myth that he is incapable of leading his team past the Seahawks while on the road. The numbers certainly aren't in his favor, so it will be an uphill climb, to say the least.
Kaepernick completed 15-of-28 passes for 196 yards and a touchdown and ran the ball eight times for 15 yards and another touchdown during the 49ers' 23-10 win over the Panthers on Sunday.

Exclusive Fantasy Analysis (FREE PREVIEW)

Kaepernick struggled to open the game and really didn't find his groove until late in the second quarter, when he led an eight-minute drive that culminated in a one-yard touchdown pass to Vernon Davis to close out the first half. He looked much more confident in the second half, as he found Anquan Boldin most often, while he also utilized the read option more, which resulted in his touchdown run in the third quarter. The preparation for the Seahawks and the NFC Championship game is going to be intense, as Seattle has held him to an average of just 151 passing yards per game between their two meetings with only one touchdown to four interceptions this season.
With more offensive weapons at Kaepernick's disposal, Panthers coach Ron Rivera expects to see a much better quarterback this Sunday in the playoffs than he saw back in Week 10 when the 49ers quarterback passed for just 91 yards with an interception and rushed for just 16 yards in total, the Associated Press reports. "I don't expect that again," Rivera said. "I expect the young man to come out and play well. He's a good football player and he showed it (Sunday) night against Green Bay."

Kaepernick completed 16-of-30 passes for 227 yards with one touchdown and one interception in Sunday's playoff game against the Packers. He also had seven carries for 98 yards rushing in the game.

Exclusive Fantasy Analysis (FREE PREVIEW)

Kaepernick was respectable in the passing game, but really crushed the Packers defense with his legs for the second straight time in the postseason. He averaged 14.0 yards per carry and had a 75.3 passer rating in the game. He will face the Panthers in the Divisional round, after he was bottled up for his worst performance of the season against them, in a loss earlier this season.

2011

While the WAC pistol quarterback figures to be quite raw, Kaepernick is a well-documented hard worker who could earn some starts if Alex Smith slips up. In the event Kaepernick does start, hed be worth a look as a fantasy option due to his 4.51 speed and rare arm strength. Even if hes too raw to make an impact as a passer, he figures to be an instant hit as a runner after piling up 4,109 yards and 59 touchdowns on the ground at Nevada. The 49ers brought Alex Smith back on a one-year deal, which means Kaepernick could be the long-term solution in San Francisco.
