Yahoo DFS Baseball: Wednesday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Baseball series.

Wednesday's 14-game MLB slate begins at 12:10 PM Eastern time. Both pitchers recommended in this slate are among the most expensive options, so they're joined by a number of cheap bats among this slate's value plays.

PITCHER

David Price, BOS at BAL ($48): Price is 7-0 with a 2.96 ERA in 11 career starts at Camden Yards, and the Manny Machado-less Orioles lineup he'll face in his 12th appearance there may be weaker than any he's seen previously. Even when Machado was there, Baltimore ranked third from the bottom in OPS against lefties at just .660. Just make sure that the game is scheduled to take place before locking Price in, as the Baltimore area has been receiving lots of rain in the past few days.

Jack Flaherty, STL at CIN ($45): Flaherty's capable of producing tremendous outings, as his ERA is just 3.15 while his strikeout rate is an excellent 29.0 percent. He also knows how to pitch on the road, with a .288 wOBA allowed that's right in line with his .285 home mark. Look for him to handle a Reds lineup that managed just seven total runs in its first four games since the All-Star break.

CATCHER

Buster Posey, SF at SEA ($10): Posey continues to be undervalued at $10, so there's little reason to look elsewhere at the catcher position. He's better against lefties, but Posey's career wOBA against righties is a respectable .348. Mariners starter Mike Leake has allowed a .349 wOBA in righty-on-righty matchups this season, so roll Posey out with confidence here.

FIRST BASE

Jake Bauers, TB vs. NYY ($20): Bauers has provided the Rays with a tremendous bat from the left side, posting a .373 wOBA against right-handed pitching, including a home run off Luis Severino in the first game of this series. He'll face a far more hittable Luis here, as Cessa has a 5.37 FIP in 121.1 career major-league innings.

SECOND BASE

Whit Merrifield, KC vs. DET ($17): Merrifield has crushed left-handed pitching to the tune of a .434 wOBA in 115 at-bats this season. Kansas City's leadoff man should have no trouble keeping the good times rolling against struggling Tigers lefty Matt Boyd, who has been terrible recently after a strong start to the season. Over his past six starts, Boyd's 0-5 with an 8.36 ERA in 28 innings.

THIRD BASE

Kris Bryant, CHC vs. ARI ($19): Bryant's only had 61 at-bats against left-handed pitching this season, but he's made the most of them with a .485 wOBA. His career mark in that split is .410, so Bryant should continue to pummel southpaws moving forward. He faces a vulnerable one here in Arizona's Robbie Ray, who's allowing a .383 wOBA to batters from the right side. Just make sure Bryant's sore shoulder isn't keeping him out of the lineup before locking him in.

SHORTSTOP

Marcus Semien, OAK at TEX ($16): Semien leads off against lefties, so he'll maximize his number of at-bats against Martin Perez at the hitter-friendly Globe Life Park in Arlington. Perez is allowing a .467 wOBA to batters from the right side this season, and that number jumps to .517 at his home venue, which leads the league with a 1.35 park factor. Meanwhile, Semien has a passable .335 career wOBA against lefties and is also a threat to add value on the base paths, as he's in the midst of a fourth consecutive campaign featuring double-digit steals.

OUTFIELD

Steven Souza Jr., ARI at CHC ($12): Souza has been occupying the cleanup spot recently and owns a .383 wOBA against lefties this season, admittedly in limited action. The matchup with Jon Lester might scare some people off, but the high-profile left-hander is dealing with some self-described mechanical issues which led to eight earned runs allowed over just three innings in his last start.

Leury Garcia, CWS at LAA ($11): The switch-hitting Garcia's having a great year from the right side, having produced a .382 wOBA in 61 at-bats against lefties. Given his affordability, Garcia's worth plugging in against Angels southpaw Tyler Skaggs. Skaggs has actually been worse at home, allowing a .325 wOBA to batters from the right side.

Travis Jankowski, SD at NYM ($9): Jankowski's a nice value play at just $2 above the minimum here. The left-handed leadoff man has a platoon advantage over rookie Mets righty Corey Oswalt, who has a 5.64 ERA through 22.1 major-league innings. While Jankowski's .320 wOBA against righties is nothing to write home about, he's also capable of wreaking havoc on the base paths judging by his 30 steals in 2016 and 14 so far this season.
