FanDuel MLB: Monday Picks

This article is part of our FanDuel MLB series.

Pitchers

James Shields, $8100 - Many will pass on David Price and his $11,000 price tag, though he should bounce back after his disastrous outing against the Yankees. Shields, however, is the most attractive option Monday coming in almost $3,000 less than Price and has a good home matchup against the Astros. Petco Park plus the free-swinging ways of Houston make this an easy choice.

Catcher

Robinson Chirinos, $2300 - Chirinos has taken over as the primary catcher for the Rangers and welcomes Taijuan Walker and his 10.66 ERA into town. Arlington Park has always been hitter-friendly and the game boasts a lofty 9 over/under for runs Monday night. Chirinos already in this early season has fantasy games of 8.5 and 12.5 points on his resume and should be in line for another positive performance against the Mariners.

First Base

Ryan Howard, $2600 - While it would be better if this game was being played in Philadelphia, there are a few factors working Howard's favor Monday night. He's finally found his power stroke and has hit home runs in three of his last five games. The batter vs. pitcher data works in his favor as well as he's has two homers in just 10 at-bats against John Lackey.

Second Base

Daniel Murphy, $2700 - The price has gotten too low for Murphy who has gotten off to a slow start this season. A matchup against Jarred Cosart should help Monday night and Murphy is coming off of a two-double performance Sunday night against the Yankees. Murphy is a career .287 hitter, meaning his current .169 batting average will progress back to the mean soon enough.

Third Base

Juan Uribe, $2400 - For whatever reason Don Mattingly seems set on keeping Alex Guerrero on the bench and playing Uribe on almost a daily basis. With the Giants' game getting called on Sunday, Tim Lincecum gets his start pushed back to Monday night and he gets to face the Dodgers. Uribe has some history against Lincecum, going 9-for-32 with two home runs for his career. Those numbers are even more impressive considering many of those stats came against the good Tim Lincecum.

Shortstop

Tim Beckham, $2400 - Remember back when Beckham was near the top of almost every prospect list? It's taken him some time but it appears he's cashing in on some of his potential that the scouts saw in him. He hit his third home run of the season Friday night and enter Monday night's game against the Yankees with games of 4.75, 3.25 and 8 fantasy points over his last three games. The matchup against Adam Warren isn't overly scary and Beckham should be able to take advantage of the hitter-friendly confines of Yankee Stadium.

Outfield

Ryan Braun, $3100 - There's the chance that Braun has dropped off a cliff and that using PEDs were giving him an advantage. However, there's also the chance he's off to a slow start this season and he'll pick up the production soon enough. The price here is too attractive for a player regularly priced north of $4K in past seasons and he's hit Jason Marquis well in the past. Braun has gone 15-for-28 against Marquis for his career including a home run and Cincinnati is one of the better hitter's parks in baseball.

Mark Trumbo, $2700 - The big slugger was given a day off Saturday but returned to the lineup Sunday for the Diamondbacks. In past seasons Trumbo has hit southpaws better and performed better at home. He has both of those factors working in his favor Monday night as Arizona welcomes Tyler Matzek and the Rockies into Arizona. Trumbo is one of the few players capable of a multi-homer game and his price is at a pretty low given what his upside is.

Curtis Granderson, $2700 - Granderson has been moved to the leadoff spot and has picked up his fantasy production after a slow start to the season. It doesn't hurt that he was reunited with his old Yankee hitting coach in Kevin Long and outside of a zero dud Saturday he has at least two fantasy points in each of his last six games. Playing against Miami in their home ballpark isn't ideal but again, the matchup against Jarred Cosart isn't overwhelming.
