FanDuel MLB: Monday Value Plays

FanDuel MLB: Monday Value Plays

This article is part of our FanDuel MLB series.

Pitchers

Chris Heston, $7,600 - There aren't a lot of solid options for tonight's slate and the only "ace" going is Lance Lynn for $9,500. Enter Heston, who last time out carried another no-hitter into the middle of the game. He's been fantastic at home as of late with fantasy scores of 16.66, 9.33, 15 and 9 over his last four home starts. Heston gets the Brewers tonight, a team that's been on the road and could be without their cleanup hitter, Adam Lind. Throw in a nice over/under of 7.5 for the game with Heston as a -154 favorite and he's a solid value tonight.

Catcher

Mike Zunino, $2,300 - You'd have to go back seven starts to find a game where Zunino had a negative point production in a game. As a right-handed hitter he's hit southpaws better for his short career and gets one at Safeco against Robbie Ray. While he only has nine home runs this season, he did have 22 last season including 10 at home. Mark Trumbo ($2,300) is also worth a look against Ray tonight.

First Base

Ben Paulsen, $2,400 - Do you believe in riding the hot hand? Paulsen had quite the game Sunday scoring 17.75 fantasy points as the Rockies destroyed the Reds. Unfortunately he moves out of Coors tonight and faces Kyle Hendricks. Hendricks has fared much worse against left-handed batters this season giving up a .741 OPS as opposed to giving up only a .629 OPS to right-handed batters. Just hope the wind is blowing out at Wrigley tonight.

Second Base

Kolten Wong, $2,900 - Wong's price has finally crept south of the $3,000 mark for the first time in a while this season. He's hit a bit of a rough patch in July and has a season-low .530 OPS for the month. However, Wong has hit in four straight games and is coming off a 3-for-5 performance on Sunday. He'll get Raisel Iglesias tonight, a pitcher who has gotten crushed by left-handed pitching this season. Iglesias has given up a .884 OPS to left-handed hitting this season, putting Wong in a great spot as the Cardinals leadoff hitter. Teammates Matt Carpenter ($2800) and Jason Heyward ($3,500) are worth consideration as well.

Third Base

Mike Moustakas, $2,600 - Moustakas has shrugged off a slow start to the month to his safely in nine of his last 10 starts. That time span includes three home runs, four walks, five runs and eight RBI. Tonight he squares off against rookie Cody Anderson who came back to earth last start after reeling off four quality starts. Moustakas should be well rested after getting Sunday off and will look to continue his hot streak at the plate.

Shortstop

Xander Bogaerts, $2,700 - Bogaerts has had a torrid month of July posting a .390 OBP and a .833 OPS. Shortstop has been a very thin fantasy position this season with many of the top options being busts thus far. Bogaerts has hit safely in all but two games this month and has 10 multi-hit efforts. He'll get a plus matchup at home against John Danks who has surrendered a .315 batting average and 12 home runs to right-handed batters this season.

Outfield

Adam Jones, $3,000 - Jones seems to be a forgotten man these days especially with Chris Davis catching fire as of late. Looking at his overall numbers, Jones is right in line to do what he did last season. He continues to hit left-handed pitching much better than righties and draws a nice home matchup against Alex Wood tonight. Wood has given up eight home runs to right-handed batters this season as well as a .797 OPS. Jones is in a good spot to go deep or at least drive in a few runs hitting in his usual spot in the order.

Chris Young, $2,900 - It's becoming rather obvious to use Young whenever facing a lefty yet he continues to be under-owned in tournaments as well as cash games. Young now has a 1.122 OPS against southpaws which includes a whopping six home runs in only 91 at-bats. Joe Girardi has been moving Young towards the top of the lineup whenever that situation arises and hit in the two hole Saturday against Tommy Milone. The matchup is good as well against Matt Harrison in Texas, a pitcher coming back from injury toeing the rubber in a great hitter's park.

Dexter Fowler, $2,700 - Quietly, Fowler has been one of the more consistent fantasy producers over the last 10 games. Outside of a dud against Philadelphia, he's scored at over three fantasy points in eight of the other nine games. He's coming off a game Sunday in which he had a home run and has four stolen bases over the last week. Fowler has had an OPS over 100 points higher hitting from the right side than the left over the last few seasons and gets Jorge de la Rosa tonight.
