FanDuel MLB: Monday Value Plays

This article is part of our FanDuel MLB series.

PITCHER

Bartolo Colon, NYM vs ATL, ($7,800): With all of the talent the Mets have on their pitching staff, there's a strong argument that Colon is the ace. Seriously though, the portly pitcher has gotten off to a nice start this season and has scored 18, 21, 37 and 36 fantasy points over his four starts, respectively. He's struck out at least four in each outing and has a very favorable matchup at home against the Braves. Atlanta has been a good team to fade as they have a .275 wOBA against right-handed pitching this season, with only San Diego (.272 wOBA) coming in worse. The Mets should provide solid run support as well, putting Colon in a good spot to pick up the win.

CATCHER

Stephen Vogt, OAK vs SEA, ($3,000): Vogt struggled a bit initially but has picked up his production over the last two weeks. He's averaged over 10 fantasy points per game over his last eight and has a good matchup against Nate Karns. Vogt has a .353 wOBA against right-handed pitching, which is in line with his .357 wOBA from this season. Karns is a mediocre pitcher and Vogt's normal spot in the middle of the batting order should give him a few opportunities to drive in some runs.

FIRST BASE

Eric Hosmer, KC vs WAS, ($3,300): There's always a good discussion about BvP data and there's information out there that supports and debunks it. In general, it seems like a good idea to at least take that information into account, as past success for a hitter against a pitcher would seem like a good thing. While it's a small sample, Hosmer has gone 4-for-6 against Gio Gonzalez with two of those hits being home runs. Over the last two seasons, Gonzalez has had a better wOBA at home than on the road, with the splits being 39 and 20 points higher on the road, respectively. Hosmer's teammates, Salvador Perez ($3,000, 5-for-6 against Gio) and Alex Gordon ($2,400, 5-for-10, one home run) are worth a look as well.

SECOND BASE

Rougned Odor, TEX at TOR, ($3,900): Looking at how thin second base is Monday, it makes sense to go and pay up for Odor, Jose Altuve or Neil Walker. Anyone with a cheap price has some kind of fleas attached to them. Brian Dozier ($2,900) gets Dallas Keuchel in Houston, Kolten Wong ($2,100) doesn't have an extra base hit in 62 plate appearances and Brandon Phillips ($2,400) is on the wrong end of a revenge game against Johnny Cueto. Getting back to Odor, he's thrived in the leadoff role this season, sporting a .934 OPS over 27 plate appearances. R.A. Dickey has surrendered at least three runs in each of his five starts this season and currently has a 6.75 ERA.

THIRD BASE

Maikel Franco, PHI at STL, ($3,200):Adam Wainwright has gone from a pitcher to avoid in past seasons into one you should target. He's been absolutely dreadful this year with a 7.16 ERA, and that number is even worse considering he's had plus matchups against the Padres, the Reds and Braves. Franco looks like a player primed to break out this season, already swatting five home runs. Last season, Franco had a .360 wOBA against right-handed pitching and Wainwright is giving up a .418 wOBA to right-handed hitters this year.

SHORTSTOP

Jonathan Villar, MIL vs LAA, ($2,700): Villar has caught fire of late, scoring at least 30 fantasy points in two of the last three games, as well as at least 12 in four of his last six. Up next is a matchup against Jered Weaver, who is a disaster waiting to happen given he's throwing a mid-80s fastball and Villar's .367 OBP has made him a useful player for the Brewers at the top of their lineup. His speed makes him a threat to steal as well, adding another opportunity for fantasy points.

OUTFIELD

Curtis Granderson, NYM vs ATL, ($3,600): All of the lefty Mets are in play (Michael Conforto, Lucas Duda, Neil Walker) given the matchup against Mike Foltynewicz, who gave up a whopping .409 wOBA last season to lefties and will be making his first start of the season with the Braves. Granderson has gotten off to a good start and has a .364 wOBA against right-handed pitching. Foltynewicz had difficulty last season with the long ball and surrendered 17 home runs in less than 87 innings.

Seth Smith, SEA at OAK, ($3,300): Smith has been raking recently and seems to be locked in at the plate. He's scored at least nine fantasy points in eight of his last 10 games, including three with at least 21. He's reached base safely in his last eight starts and had a .343 wOBA last season against right-handed pitching. He now gets to face Kendall Graveman, who gave up a .324 wOBA and 4.78 xFIP to lefties last season.

Domingo Santana, MIL vs LAA, ($2,600): Getting back to picking on Jered Weaver, Santana has done a stellar job as the leadoff batter for the Brewers. He's scored at least nine fantasy points in six of his last nine games, including two home runs. His OBP sits at a respectable .341 and his minor league numbers show he's a legitimate prospect who should produce in the majors. It may be wise to pair up some Brewers with lefty Mets for both cash and GPP lineups.
