DraftKings MLB: Wednesday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings MLB series.

PITCHER

Johnny Cueto, SF at SD ($11,900): I generally try to avoid claiming the top bunk, but will happily grab Cueto against the Padres, as they have the second-worst wOBA in the league against right-handed pitching and strike out against them more than 25 percent of the time. Cueto is sporting his highest ground ball rate since 2013 (47 percent), while also carrying a 23 percent strikeout rate.

Bartolo Colon, NYM vs. WAS ($6,600): It may surprise some to learn that the Nationals will enter play as a bottom-10 team against right-handed pitching, having worse wOBAs than the Angels and Twins. Colon has his best strikeout rate (20.5 percent) in over a decade, and he has walked just four batters over 43.1 innings.

CATCHER

Yan Gomes, CLE at CIN ($3,100): There was a considerable amount of buzz surrounding Brandon Finnegan early this season, but the noise has faded with each passing start. Finnegan has been beaten up by righties in 2016, allowing eight home runs in just 33.1 innings. Gomes has cooled considerably after a fast start, but he still holds a .188 ISO against left-handed pitchers.

FIRST BASE

Joey Votto, CIN vs. CLE ($4,000): On the other side of the aisle we have a pitcher making his major league debut. Mike Clevinger has struggled with walks over the course of his career, and he could be in for a long day if he can't control the count against a hitter like Votto, who has notched a .365 OBP against righties this season.

SECOND BASE

Chase Utley, LAD at LAA ($3,700): Another day means another pitcher to exploit in the Angels' rotation. Nick Tropeano is sporting a strong strikeout rate this season, but he hasn't lasted six innings in any of his seven starts. His 12 percent walk rate has contributed to an xFIP approaching 5.00 in 36.2 innings. Chase Utley still has some life in his 37-year-old body, as he has a .387 wOBA against right-handed pitchers this year.

THIRD BASE

Jake Lamb, ARI vs. NYY ($3,900):Nathan Eovaldi has been hammered by his opposite hand this season, allowing a .306/.367/.592 slash line against southpaws over 17.2 innings. Lamb has essentially become a platoon bat, notching a .271 ISO with a .388 OBP against righties in 39 games.

SHORTSTOP

Francisco Lindor, CLE at CIN ($4,100): Lindor is a switch-hitter who has taken a liking to hacking from the right side of the plate, as he has a .416 wOBA against lefties over 45 at-bats. He should make a fine addition to a stack against Brandon Finnegan, who is allowing a hard contact rate of almost 33 percent this season.

OUTFIELD

Colby Rasmus, HOU at CWS ($3,900):Mat Latos started off the season well, but a career-worst 11 percent strikeout rate has caught up with him, as he has allowed at least four runs in each of his last three starts. Rasmus is generally strikeout prone, but he should be able to sink his teeth (and his .217 ISO against righties) into a few of Latos' 89 mile-per-hour fastballs.

Joc Pederson, LAD at LAA ($3,800): Pederson represents our second double of the day as we look to take advantage of Tropeano. Pederson has a career mark of nearly four runs above average against the curveball, a pitch Tropeano throws 25 percent of the time.

Gregory Polanco, PIT vs. ATL ($4,200):Julio Teheran is sporting his best strikeout rate since 2013, but a swinging strike rate below nine percent makes me question whether he can keep the whiffs coming. Teheran transforms into a different pitcher against left-handed batters, as he has allowed a .364 wOBA and a 14 percent walk rate in eight starts.

Other Options: George Springer, HOU at CWS ($4,900) Kole Calhoun, LAA vs. LAD ($4,200) Yoenis Cespedes, NYM vs. WAS ($4,000)
