DraftKings MLB: Monday Picks

DraftKings MLB: Monday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings MLB series.

PITCHER

Jason Hammel, CHC vs. LAD ($9,700): Hammel's mediocre walk and strikeout rates make it unlikely that he will hold a 2.17 ERA all season, but he has been able to keep teams at bay thanks to his 46 percent ground ball rate and above-average slider. The Dodgers are a bottom-10 team against righties this season, and hit the fifth-fewest fly balls in the league.

Nate Karns, SEA vs. SD ($9,500): The Padres seem to be a perfect matchup for a pitcher like Karns, as they strike out 24 percent of the time against right-handed pitchers while walking at just a 6.4 percent clip. They are also the second-worst team in the league against the curveball, a pitch Karns throws 37 percent of the time.

CATCHER

Jonathan Lucroy, MIL vs. STL ($4,400): Lucroy is showing an extreme reverse split this season, notching a .413 wOBA against righties as opposed to a .250 mark against lefties. He also carries a 43 percent fly ball rate, which should play well against the ground ball tendencies of Carlos Martinez.

FIRST BASE

Brandon Belt, SF at ATL ($3,800): Opposing starter Mike Foltynewicz's problems with lefties have continued in his five outings this season, as evidenced by his .459 wOBA over 9.2 innings. Belt has actually shown better numbers against same-handed pitchers, but he has still tallied an .847 OPS over 113 at-bats against righties.

SECOND BASE

Ben Zobrist, CHC vs. LAD ($4,800):Alex Wood is finally giving owners a chance to relax after a tumultuous 2015 season, but Zobrist could be the man to give them flashbacks, as he owns a 1.044 OPS against left-handed pitching, while Wood has a 6.84 ERA in 25 innings away from Dodger Stadium this year.

THIRD BASE

Brandon Drury, ARI vs. HOU ($2,600): Drury has excelled from both sides of the platoon, but he is showing serious power against righties, posting a .228 ISO in 114 at-bats. Collin McHugh could struggle in the hitter-friendly confines of Chase Field, as he has been tagged for 14 runs (13 earned) in just 18.1 innings on the road.

SHORTSTOP

Brandon Crawford, SF at ATL ($3,900): We will once again turn our attention to Foltynewicz, as the Giants have a few lefties we can use to try to exploit the 24-year-old's problem with southpaws. Meanwhile, Crawford is slashing .267/.348/.491 with a .224 ISO against righties.

OUTFIELD

Nomar Mazara, TEX at CLE ($3,900): Mazara has been tough on righties in his first season as a major leaguer, slugging .543 with a wOBA approaching .400 over 105 at-bats. Josh Tomlin has performed well for the Indians, but home runs remain an issue, as he comes in with a 1.8 HR/9 rate against his opposite hand.

Nelson Cruz, SEA vs. SD ($4,200): Despite all his promise, Andrew Cashner continues to underwhelm as a starting pitcher, and he has been particularly hittable against righties this season, surrendering a .426 wOBA over 18.2 innings. Cruz doesn't handle righties as well as lefties, but still has a .370 wOBA in 44 games.

Michael Bourn, ARI vs. HOU ($2,700): Bourn has been on fire since having his contract purchased by the big club earlier this month, hitting .407/.484/.556 in his first 10 games. Bourn could see added value with Jason Castro behind the plate, as he has thrown out just three of 20 base runners this year.

Other options: Brandon Moss, STL at MIL ($3,800); Gerardo Parra, COL vs. CIN ($4,100); Ian Desmond, TEX at CLE ($4,300)
