DraftKings MLB: Wednesday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings MLB series.

PITCHER

Michael Fulmer, DET vs. CWS ($9,600): Fulmer allowed five runs (four earned) in just five innings against the White Sox towards the end of July, but this matchup takes place on the road, where the Pale Hose hold the sixth-lowest wOBA in the league. Fulmer has looked a bit more vulnerable after losing his scoreless innings streak, but still has a 2.50 ERA over 16 starts.

Steven Matz, NYM at NYY ($8,800): The Yankees are a bottom-5 team against lefties this season according to wOBA, and have a chance to get even worse now that Carlos Beltran has taken his 1.045 OPS to Arlington. Matz enters with a 50 percent ground-ball rate to pit against the Bombers' bottom-10 fly-ball percentage.

CATCHER

Anthony Recker, ATL vs. PIT ($2,700): Recker has gotten off to a strong start with the Braves, tallying a .333/.433/.458 slash line over 24 at-bats. He should make a fine value play against Jeff Locke, who holds an xFIP over 5.00 and a 35 percent hard contact rate against righties.

FIRST BASE

Brandon Belt, SF at PHI ($3,700):Aaron Nola's peripherals are telling us he'll be alright, but it's getting hard to ignore the results, as he has allowed at least five earned runs in five of his last seven outings. Belt carries a .189 ISO against right-handed pitching, and he should be able to get plenty of lift against an extreme ground-ball pitcher like Nola due to his 46 percent fly-ball rate.

SECOND BASE

Devon Travis, TOR at HOU ($4,100): Travis is a bit of an odd duck, as he has struggled mightily against the platoon but has stuck it to righties with a .317/.378/.535 slash line over 142 at-bats. Collin McHugh has allowed a .468 slugging percentage and 33 percent hard contact rate to same-handed hitters this year.

THIRD BASE

Kyle Seager, SEA vs. BOS ($3,900): Seager has hammered right-handed pitchers this season, notching a .605 slugging percentage over 253 at-bats. The 28-year-old will look to take advantage of the ground-ball tendencies of Rick Porcello and his fly-ball rate of 43 percent.

SHORTSTOP

Manny Machado, BAL vs. TEX ($4,100): Opposing starter Cole Hamels has done well to limit his homers of late, but he still has a HR/9 rate of more than 1.2 to right-handed hitters this season. Machado has tallied an ISO over .200 from both sides of the platoon and may be able to do some damage against Hamels' ground-ball profile due to his 44 percent fly-ball rate.

OUTFIELD

Stephen Piscotty, STL at CIN ($4,800): The Reds want to give Cody Reed a chance to work through his struggles despite allowing 10 homers in 35.2 innings with the big club. The Cardinals have several righties to consider, but Piscotty should top the list because of his .301 ISO against left-handed pitching.

Khris Davis, OAK at LAA ($4,300): It's hard to imagine that there is a bad option against Jered Weaver these days, as he hasn't had an xFIP lower than 5.70 from either side of the platoon. Weaver has gone to his curveball 22 percent of the time this season, but it may not prove useful against Davis, who has registered 7.0 runs above average against the pitch.

Corey Dickerson, TB vs. KC ($3,700): One of the nice things about a matchup between the Rays and the Royals is that there is usually a batted ball advantage to exploit. We will look to Dickerson this time around, as he holds a 47 percent fly-ball rate against Edinson Volquez's nearly 55 percent ground-ball rate.

Other options: Charlie Blackmon, COL vs. LAD ($5,100); Gregory Polanco, PIT at ATL ($4,800); Adam Duvall, CIN vs. STL ($4,700); Lonnie Chisenhall, CLE vs. MIN ($4,200)
