PITCHER
Jon Lester, CHC at SD ($12,500): The main slate doesn't leave much room for experimentation, as there is a significant drop-off in skill level after the first five selections. I wrote Saturday that DFS players should look to Robbie Ray against the Padres for strikeout upside, and those who gave him a shot saw him rack up 13 strikeouts. Lester doesn't quite match Ray in the punch out department, but he is by no means a slouch, as he holds a 25 percent K rate. This makes for a nice matchup against the Pads, who strikeout roughly a quarter of the time against southpaws.
Doug Fister, HOU at PIT ($6,100): Fister is one of the few pitchers on the docket with a batted ball edge, as his ground ball profile should help him get outs against the Pirates, who hold the fourth-lowest fly ball percentage in the league. Fister has been hit hard by lefties this season, but he has allowed just a .296 slugging percentage to righties. This should come in handy against the Bucs, as their starting lineup featured just two southpaws against Jose Urena on Sunday.
CATCHER
Sandy Leon, BOS at TB ($3,300): The one-time backup catcher is slashing .386/.438/.648 with a .262 ISO over 145 at-bats. He would be a fine value play against almost anyone at this price, but he could be in line to do damage against Blake Snell, who holds a 4.42 xFIP against right-handed hitters.
FIRST BASE
Chris Carter, MIL at COL ($4,200): The Rockies' pitching staff is made up almost entirely of extreme ground ball pitchers. Chad Bettis is no exception, having notched a rate better than 51 percent over 141.1 innings. Meanwhile, Carter has tallied a .237 ISO against righty hurlers and also carries a 49 percent fly ball rate.
SECOND BASE
Logan Forsythe, TB vs. BOS ($4,800): Forsythe has generated tremendous power against lefties this season, as evidenced by his .256 ISO against them over 78 at-bats. David Price has pitched better than his 4.19 ERA suggests, but he has allowed a hard contact rate of over 37 percent against his opposite hand.
THIRD BASE
Nolan Arenado, COL at MIL ($4,600): Arenado has been so good that I consider him a value play any time he can be had for less than $5,000. It is true that his numbers on the road are not the eye-popping stats one might see from Coors Field, but Miller Park is plenty hitter-friendly, and Arenado gets to take his 48 percent fly ball rate up against the ground ball tendencies of Jimmy Nelson.
SHORTSTOP
Xander Bogaerts, BOS at TB ($4,100): Bogaerts has been a bit underwhelming in the power department, but he is putting together a fantastic season. This is particularly true against lefties, as he is hitting .327 with a .367 wOBA over 101 at-bats.
OUTFIELD
Jason Heyward CHC at SD, ($2,800): Heyward wouldn't be anyone's first choice in the Cubs lineup, but with Edwin Jackson taking the hill for the Padres we need to have some kind of representation, and we could potentially steal some points without having to pay through the nose. While his numbers make me cry, Heyward still has solid strikeout and walk rates, and Jackson has walked nearly 13 percent of the lefty batters he has faced. He also carries a 5.75 xFIP against his opposite hand.
Khris Davis, CLE at OAK ($3,500): Davis has been a consistent power threat against righties and lefties, but he has scorched the ball against same-handed pitchers, logging a 39 percent hard contact rate. Carlos Carrasco has thrown the ball well this season, but he has had issues keeping the ball in the park of late, surrendering at least one homer in seven of his last eight starts.
Aaron Judge, NYY at SEA ($4,000): Judge has taken the baseball world by storm since his call up, hitting two homers and notching a .269 ISO in his first seven games. Cody Martin's first start of the season didn't go well, as he lasted just 4.1 innings while allowing two runs and nine base runners. He will likely continue to struggle if he is unable to get his strikeout rate over 12 percent.
