DraftKings MLB: Thursday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings MLB series.

PITCHER

Julio Urias, LAD at SD ($8,700): Pitching for a potential spot in the postseason rotation, Urias might bring added motivation to the mound Thursday. San Diego's .282 wOBA in September sweetens the deal, and Urias might be slightly under owned because he made a relief appearance in his latest outing and lasted only 3.2 innings in his most recent start. His 24.4 strikeout percentage doesn't require him to pitch deep into a game to reward on this cap hit, especially against the Friars.

Alex Reyes, STL vs. CIN ($7,400): This salary is a bargain for Reyes, who has a 2.38 ERA and held opposing hitters to a .298 slugging percentage through his four starts. He's sporting a 28.1 strikeout percentage through 40 innings in the majors, and the Reds are a middling offense (.315 wOBA) against right-handed arms.

CATCHER

Yasmani Grandal, LAD at SD ($4,000): The backstop has a .349 wOBA and .382 on-base percentage against left-handed pitchers this season, and he's scorching hot in the second half with a .377 wOBA. Christian Friedrich has allowed a .359 wOBA to right-handed hitters during his career, albeit with an improved .322 mark this season.

FIRST BASE

Tyler Austin, NYY vs. BOS ($2,800): You always need to be careful when pulling statistics from small sample sizes. That being said it's tough to ignore this matchup at Austin's salary. He's sporting a .419 wOBA against southpaws to start his career, and Henry Owens has surrendered a .340wOBA to righties during his career, including a .456 mark this season.

SECOND BASE

DJ LeMahieu, COL at SF ($3,200): With a .417 on-base percentage and .389 wOBA against right-handed hurlers this season, LeMahieu is a nice contrarian lean Thursday. And while his home-road splits are significant (.308 road wOBA against righties), Johnny Cueto might not be fully healthy and has been much more hittable in the second half.

THIRD BASE

Nolan Arenado, COL at SF ($4,200): Another against-the-grain option with a modest price given the upside, Arenado boasts a road wOBA of .368 against right-handed pitchers. This is definitely in high-risk, high-reward territory, but Johnny Cueto should keep Arenado's ownership down.

SHORTSTOP

Manny Machado, BAL at TOR ($4,000):Marcus Stroman has turned his season around and has limited right-handed hitters to a .310 wOBA in the second half. However, Baltimore stormed back to beat the Blue Jays on Wednesday, and Machado has a .364 wOBA against right-handed pitchers this season.

OUTFIELD

Andrew McCutchen, PIT vs. CHC ($4,700): With Rob Zastryzny making his starting debut, McCutchen is in line to continue his torrid pace to finish the season (.383 wOBA in September). Despite the outfielder's underwhelming .317 wOBA against lefties this season, he still has a .372 mark over the past three years.

Chris Young, BOS vs. NYY ($4,000): One of the premier hitters against left-handed hurlers, Young boasts a .426 wOBA against southpaws this year. It's a solid matchup with CC Sabathia, who has surrendered 12 home runs and a .338 wOBA to right-handed hitters since the All-Star break.

Adam Jones, BAL at TOR ($3,700): Another cheap option to stack alongside Machado, Jones has a .347 wOBA against right-handed pitchers this season. Expect the Orange Birds to fly under the radar because of Marcus Stroman's turnaround this season (.299 wOBA in the second half). Still, Jones owns a high ceiling and his price is low.
