Yahoo DFS Baseball: Saturday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Baseball series.

Pitcher

Tanner Roark, WAS vs. MIA ($46): End-of-season starters have made for a surprisingly thin 13-game slate in terms of pitching, so if you aren't spending up for Clayton Kershaw or Jon Lester, it makes sense to take a look at Roark in a nice matchup. The Marlins have tallied just a .309 wOBA against righties this season, and hold the lowest flyball percentage in the league. This should play right into the strategy of Roark, who has kept the ball on the ground at a 49 percent clip in 2016.

Trevor Bauer, CLE at KC ($37): Bauer has allowed at least four runs in each of his last four starts, but pitched better than his final line indicated last week against the White Sox. The Royals are the third-worst team in the league against right-handed pitching, according to wOBA, and are a bottom 10 team when it comes to hitting flyballs, which should allow Bauer and his 48 percent groundball rate to record some easy outs.

Catcher

Yasmani Grandal, LAD at SF ($15): Albert Suarez has been a five-inning pitcher for most of the season, but the lefties in Los Angeles could make this outing seem a bit longer as the rookie has notched a 5.39 xFIP against his opposite hand. Grandal has shown a tremendous amount of power from the left side of the plate, notching a .268 ISO over 314 at-bats.

First Base

Mike Napoli, CLE at KC ($12): Napoli has been fortunate to compete in the AL Central this season, as it seems like every pitcher in the Royals' rotation plays to at least one of his strengths. Edinson Volquez is no exception, as he will look to keep the ball on the ground against the 34-year-old's 45 percent flyball rate. It is also worth noting that Napoli has kept an 8.1 Runs Above Average mark against the curveball, a pitch Volquez throws a quarter of the time.

Second Base

Jose Altuve, HOU at LAA ($15)Tyler Skaggs will return to the mound Saturday for his final start of the season after recovering from a forearm injury he suffered earlier this month. Skaggs has thrown the ball well when he has been healthy enough to take the field, but holds an 11 percent walk rate and a 1.2 HR/9 rate against righties. The young southpaw didn't begin the year until the end of July after recovering from Tommy John surgery, so it seems unlikely that the Angels will want to take any chances with his arm so close to the end of the season. This may mean that Altuve and his .197 ISO will see lower quality competition out of the bullpen for the majority of the contest.

Third Base

Evan Longoria, TB at TEX ($11): Colby Lewis has been lit up since his return from the disabled list, allowing 13 earned runs over 12 innings in three starts. Longoria has hammered right-handed pitching all season, and will look to improve upon his .265 ISO in the final two games of the year.

Shortstop

Danny Espinosa, WAS vs. MIA ($7): Wei-Yin Chen hasn't made it out of the fifth inning in either of his two starts since recovering from an elbow injury, allowing five earned runs in 8.1 frames over that span. Espinosa has notched a .265 ISO against lefties, and homered off Chen the last time the two faced each other Sept. 19.

Outfield

Max Kepler, MIN at CWS ($9): James Shields has managed to sprinkle a few quality outings in amongst the wreckage of late, but he still owns a 5.82 ERA and a 2.0 HR/9 rate over 174.2 innings. Kepler has maintained his power stroke against righties throughout the course of the season, and currently owns a .223 ISO against his opposite hand.

Charlie Blackmon, COL vs. MIL ($23): Blackmon will try to put the finishing touches on a career-best season this weekend, as he is slashing .322/.378/.545 over 630 at-bats. Wily Peralta has thrown the ball better of late, but still holds a 5.10 ERA and a 1.4 HR/9 rate over 121.2 innings.

Mark Trumbo, BAL at NYY ($15): Luis Severino has enjoyed success since moving to the bullpen, but was hit hard as a member of the starting rotation, where he saw his ERA balloon up to 8.59 in 44 innings. Trumbo has been on a home run binge to close out the season, which has brought his ISO against right-handers to .302 in 450 at-bats.

Other Options: Brandon Drury, ARI vs. SD ($18); Carlos Beltran, TEX vs. TB ($17); Miguel Sano, MIN at CWS ($15)
