FanDuel MLB: Thursday Value Plays

FanDuel MLB: Thursday Value Plays

This article is part of our FanDuel MLB series.

Pitcher

Marcus Stroman, TOR at TB ($7,500) – This isn't a crazy price to spend on a pitcher, especially on a day where there aren't really any "studs" toeing the rubber. Stroman has a pretty safe floor, as over his last 15 starts of 2016, he tallied at least 18 fantasy points while surpassing 40 five of those times. He's already gotten some extra work in playing in the World Baseball Classic, meaning his pitch count could be looser compared to other pitchers.

Catcher

Yasmani Grandal, LAD vs SD ($2,700) – Grandal had a big Opening Day with two home runs before going 0-for-3 on Wednesday. However, Thursday looks better with Jered Weaver taking the mound for the Padres. Last season, Weaver gave up 37 home runs and was hit hard from both sides of the plate giving up a .365 wOBA to both left and right-handed hitters.

First Base

Jose Abreu, CHI vs DET ($3,100) – Boyd might not be ready for the big leagues yet after surrendering a .341 wOBA to right-handed hitters last year. Despite a "down" season, Abreu still managed to hit at least 25 home runs and 100 RBI for the third straight year in 2016.

Second Base

Brandon Drury, ARI vs SF ($2,600) – It's not a bad idea to run out a Diamondbacks stack today given their home matchup against Jeff Samardzija. "Shark sandwich" gave up 24 home runs last season and is going from an extreme home pitcher's park to a hitter's park. Drury finished up the spring strong with a 1.064 OPS and his hitting ability has really never been in question. That he qualifies this year at second base is a plus and this is basically a punt play given his price.

Shortstop

Troy Tulowitzki, TOR at TB ($2,800) – Granted, he doesn't get to play in the friendly confines of Coors Field, but his price was never this low when he did. For his career, Tulo has hit lefties to the tune of a .401 wOBA and has that matchup today against Blake Snell. While Snell has a lot of upside, he's still something of a raw pitcher and allowed a .330 wOBA to right-handed hitters last season.

Third Base

Jose Reyes, NYM vs ATL ($2,700) – This is another attractive price given the damage Reyes can do from the leadoff spot. It's going to take some time to get used to seeing Jaime Garcia playing for the Braves, but this is a good matchup for Reyes. For his career he has a .342 wOBA against southpaws and is always a threat to steal regardless of who's on the hill. Chances are Garcia won't last past the fifth inning, giving Reyes a chance to do damage against the bullpen.

Outfield

Bryce Harper, WAS vs MIA ($4,800) – This pick may be obvious, but there's good reason to pay up for Harper today. He's absolutely owned Tom Koehler thus far with a 1.385 OPS against him, including six home runs in 38 plate appearances. The hope here is that Harper comes to the plate with runners on so Koehler can't pitch around him and there's multiple RBI opportunities.

Hunter Pence, SF at ARI ($2,600) – This price is way too cheap for Pence, who gets a park upgrade and has a good matchup against lefty Robbie Ray. Pence has a career .363 wOBA against left-handed pitching and Ray gave up a .364 wOBA to right-handed hitters at home last season. A Giants stack in a GPP could pay off in this matchup.

Paulo Orlando, KC at MIN ($2,400) – This seems like a bit of a suspect pick, but Orlando had a surprisingly good spring with three home runs despite never being known for his power. He'll probably be in the lineup today (check the daily lineups to make sure) and has gone 6-for-10 with a 1.436 OPS against Kyle Gibson and has the speed to swipe a bag or two.
