FanDuel MLB: Saturday Value Plays

This article is part of our FanDuel MLB series.

PITCHER

Dylan Bundy, BAL vs. CWS ($8,200): The 24-year-old hurler has some underlying statistics that suggest rocky times could be ahead (.257 BABIP and 86.7 strand rate), and his 5.7 K/9 doesn't jump off the page. However, Bundy has already faced the Boston lineup three times and he still sports a 1.82 ERA and 3.26 FIP. The White Sox sport a league-low .270 wOBA and a fourth highest 24.7 percent K rate against right-handed hurlers this year, so this is a soft matchup for Bundy.

CATCHER

Buster Posey, SFG at CIN ($3,600): Opposition hurler Amir Garrett has allowed five home runs and a .675 slugging percentage through his past two starts, so Posey's track record against lefties is a nice fit at hitter-friendly Great American Ball Park. The backstop has posted a .413 OBP and .387 wOBA against southpaws dating back to last season, and Garrett has also surrendered a 40.0 hard-hit percentage to right-handed hitters this season.

FIRST BASE

Yonder Alonso, OAK vs. DET ($3,000): Offseason work to make adjustments at the dish have paid off for Alonso, and his salary doesn't match his offensive production this season. Alonso boasts a .975 OPS, .239 ISO and .410 wOBA against right-handed hurlers, and he lands in a sneaky good matchup. Jordan Zimmermann's struggled since joining the Tigers (5.14 ERA) and has allowed a 45.1 hard-hit percentage to left-handed hitters this season.

SECOND BASE

Javier Baez, CHC vs. NYY ($2,900): This salary doesn't jive with Baez's current form (.720 SLG over his past 25 at-bats) or .359 wOBA against southpaws last year. Additionally, Baez also posted an impressive 1.148 OPS and .476 wOBA against lefties at Wrigley Field in 2016, and gets Yankees rookie lefty Jordan Montgomery in this one. Target Baez as an upside source of cap relief.

THIRD BASE

Eugenio Suarez, CIN vs. SFG ($3,400): While Ty Blach's numbers in the majors are solid, he's made just four starts and his 3.95 ERA through 53 Triple-A starts certainly doesn't jump off the page. At this salary, Suarez's .920 OPS, .261 ISO and .389 wOBA against lefties over the past two seasons are encouraging, especially with the game at Great American Ball Park.

SHORTSTOP

Trevor Story, COL vs. ARI ($3,600): Nothing has gone right for Story this season, but after posting a 1.101 OPS, .408 ISO and .450 wOBA against southpaws at Coors Field last year, the shortstop is intriguing. Patrick Corbin has surrendered a .352 wOBA to right-handed hitters over the past three years, and the lefty also owns a career 6.69 ERA at Coors while allowing a .955 OPS to opposing batters.

OUTFIELD

Nelson Cruz, SEA vs. TEX ($4,600): Dating back to the 2015 season, Cruz has crushed lefties to the tune of a .328 ISO and .436 wOBA, so his salary has profit potential against Martin Perez. The southpaw sports a 4.54 FIP over the past two seasons while surrendering a .341 wOBA to right-handed hitters. Cruz has also put an early-season slump behind him with five homers, 18 RBI and a 1.329 OPS through his past 10 games.

Yasmany Tomas, ARI at COL ($4,200): Facing a lefty at Coors Field is the perfect setup for Tomas. He's posted a 1.005 OPS and .418 wOBA against southpaws dating back to last season, and Tyler Anderson has surrendered a .350 wOBA to right-handed hitters during the same time frame. Additionally, Anderson has already allowed 28 runs through 30.1 innings this season.

Franklin Gutierrez, LOS at SDP ($2,500): The Dodgers were atrocious against lefties last season (league-worst .275 wOBA), so Gutierrez was a solid offseason addition. The veteran outfielder hit a home run in his last start, and he owns a .391 wOBA against southpaws dating back to the 2015 campaign. This is also a cushy matchup with Clayton Richard sporting a 4.74 FIP this season while allowing a .405 wOBA to righty bats.
