Yahoo DFS Baseball: Tuesday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Baseball series.

Tuesday's MLB slate features 15 games beginning at 6:10 PM Eastern time. With a couple of can't-miss lefties in different regions of the price spectrum taking the mound, the strategy for the day revolves around saving the money to deploy both.

PITCHER

Jarlin Garcia, MIA vs. PHI ($38): Garcia's been a pleasant surprise for an otherwise subpar Marlins team, starting out in long relief before quickly forcing his way into the rotation with brilliant performances. The southpaw owns a 1.00 ERA and 0.81 WHIP in 27 innings this season, including a 0.53 ERA over 17 innings through three turns as a starter. His 6.7 K/9 leaves much to be desired, but Garcia has a nearly ideal matchup in that category, as Philadelphia's 10.2 strikeouts per contest are second-most in the league. Garcia's chances of getting in the win column are also boosted by the fact that he's at home and matching up against a minor-league injury replacement in Zach Eflin.

Chris Sale, BOS vs. KC ($60): When a stud like Sale has a matchup this good, you can just plug him in, sit back and watch him rack up the fantasy points. He posted a 36.2 percent strikeout rate and 2.65 xFIP last season, so this season's early marks of 32.6 percent and 2.98, respectively, are more than sustainable. Sale won't face much weaker opposition than Kansas City, which ranks 29th in offense at 3.30 runs per game. Some owners will be put off by the Royals' lack of strikeouts, but Sale is capable of racking up whiffs against even the most contact-oriented hitters.

CATCHER

Chance Sisco, BAL at LAA ($12): Angels right-hander Nick Tropeano -- who's filling in for Shohei Otani (ankle) on the mound -- has been brutal against batters from the left side, allowing a .376 wOBA in that split last season and a .388 mark so far in 2018. Sisco's underwhelmed in a small sample this season after excelling in an even smaller sample last year, but overall, the young catcher's career wOBA against righties is still at an impressive .406. Given Tropeano's struggles and Sisco's success, this is a great value pick at $12.

FIRST BASE

Joe Mauer, MIN vs. TOR ($16): Mauer's contact-hitting style makes him a high-floor option, as he managed a .354 wOBA against right-handed pitching last season. While Mauer only launched seven home runs last year, this matchup maximizes his upside in that category. Toronto righty Marco Estrada has already surrendered seven long balls in five starts this season, and he gave up 31 homers in 33 starts during the previous campaign. Of those 31 home runs, 15 were hit by left-handed sluggers like Mauer.

SECOND BASE

Kolten Wong, STL vs. CWS ($10): Wong's an affordable option at a light-hitting position, making him a strong choice for owners looking to spend big elsewhere. You won't find a better time to deploy the left-handed slugger than against righty James Shields, who's allowed at least a .370 wOBA to hitters from that side in each of the past three seasons. Wong's respectable .343 wOBA against righties last season also suggests he's more dangerous than his price lets on.

THIRD BASE

Alex Bregman, HOU vs. NYY ($15): Bregman can get lost in the shuffle on the star-studded Astros, but he's an elite option against left-handed pitching, especially at his current price. While he's off to a slow start in that split this season, last year's .406 wOBA and 21:17 K:BB in 162 such plate appearances suggest Bregman has the tools to capitalize on this matchup with Jordan Montgomery, who has a 4.39 career road ERA.

SHORTSTOP

Amed Rosario, NYM vs. ATL ($9): Rosario's one of the top prospects in baseball, and he's lived up to that lofty status against left-handed pitching, producing a .352 wOBA in that split during his brief career. Look for him to find further success against Braves lefty Sean Newcomb, who sports an ugly career walk rate of 12.3 percent, which translates to a BB/9 over 5.0.

OUTFIELD

Jose Pirela, SD at SF ($13): San Francisco's calling up left-handed spot-starter Andrew Suarez to keep its other starters on regular rest, and that decision is music to Pirela's ears. Pirela posted a .390 wOBA in 82 at-bats against southpaws last season and is off to a similar start this year. He's moved around the batting order -- hitting first, second, fourth and fifth at different points in the season -- but Pirela's a major fantasy threat from any of those spots here.

Christian Yelich, MIL at CIN ($18): Reds starter Homer Bailey should be a popular pick to stack against given his 4.98 xFIP last season and 5.09 mark so far this year. If you had to pick just one Brewers bat to use, though, Yelich is as good as any. He bats in the fantasy-friendly two-hole in the order, and the left-handed slugger has the platoon advantage over the right-handed Bailey, who surrendered a .356 wOBA in such matchups last season.

Derek Dietrich, MIA vs. PHI ($12): Yelich used to be Miami's best left-handed hitting outfielder, but that title now belongs to Dietrich, who remains quite affordable despite usually occupying the leadoff spot for the Marlins. Dietrich's skills should be on full display against Eflin, who was recently called up to take Ben Lively's (back) spot. Eflin's faced 293 batters from the left side in his career, allowing a .385 wOBA over that sample.
