It's Memorial Day, so maybe you missed the chance to play a full daily fantasy baseball schedule. That's okay! There are four games tonight, and you can make a lineup from those eight teams. Here are some recommendations you can take into account. Enjoy the rest of your holiday.
PITCHER
Vince Velasquez, PHI at LAD ($8,300): The one downside of the Monday night slate is that the pitching options are less than stellar. Velasquez has a 4.15 FIP, which is middling at best. However, the man knows his way around a strikeout. So far this year he's struck out 11.15 batters per nine innings, and in his career he has a 9.92 K/9 rate. That's worth something, especially with only eight teams in action.
GPP FADE: Jakob Junis, KAN vs. MIN ($8,500): Here's how you know Monday is weird: Junis is the priciest pitcher of the bunch. This despite the fact he has a 4.52 FIP after having a 4.59 FIP last season. He's actually also been considerably better on the road this year for whatever reason. The Twins' offense hasn't been great, but putting this much money on Junis feels risky, to say the least.
Cheap GPP Consideration: Andrew Suarez, SFG at COL ($6,000): The cheap options are a bit lackluster, but Suarez is the cheapest that still seems like a plausible choice. The 25-year-old rookie has only six starts to his name, and in that time he has a 4.43 FIP. The Rockies have a team slash line of .234/.309/.396, and they are in the bottom 10 in runs scored. It's not a terrible matchup, even at Coors Field.
CATCHER/FIRST BASE
Carlos Santana, PHI at LOS ($3,600): Santana is off to a slow start, but his .196 BABIP is bound to improve. He's still shown some power, though, and he has nine home runs. The 32-year-old has also generally been better against righties. Brock Stewart is getting another start for the Dodgers, and he has a career 5.39 FIP and has given up 1.64 home runs per nine innings.
SECOND BASE
Asdrubal Cabrera, NYM at ATL ($3,600): Cabera is off to a hot start, as he's posted a .316/.356/.532 slash line to go with eight home runs. He's hit at least 14 homers in his last seven years, so we know he has a little bit of power. Atlanta's Brandon McCarthy is a 34-year-old with a career 4.17 ERA, and so far he's been a little worse at home this year.
THIRD BASE
Eduardo Escobar, MIN at KAN ($3,100): Escobar is walking a bit more to start this season, and he has a .494 slugging percentage that is a career best. He also is coming off a year where he hit 21 homers in 129 games. As previously noted, Jakob Junis has a 4.52 FIP. Plus, he's allowed 1.47 home runs per nine innings in his career.
SHORT STOP
Dansby Swanson, ATL vs. NYM ($2,900): Swanson has averaged 9.2 fantasy points per game, which is a major step up from where he was last season. The first overall pick is only 24, and he should still be improving, especially given his pedigree. P.J. Conlon was pitching poorly in the minors before getting the call for the second start of Monday's doubleheader for the Mets. He's only pitched 3.7 innings in the majors in his career, and in that time he allowed three runs and six baserunners.
OUTFIELD
Odubel Herrera, PHI at LOS ($3,900): Herrera has an impressive career slash line of .292/.350/.439. This year has been the best of the bunch, as he's slashing .331/.396/.519 with seven homers and 11 doubles in 49 games. The 26-year-old is a threat with the bat, and Brock Stewart has a woeful 5.39 FIP though 72.0 career innings.
Jorge Soler, KAN vs. MIN ($3,200): Soler has averaged 10.2 fantasy points per game, which is better than a lot of players that will cost you more cash. Perhaps that's because some are skeptical of his start to the season given how much he's struggled the last few years. However, you can cast skepticism aside with only eight teams worth of players to choose from. Plus, Minnesota's Lance Lynn has a 6.34 ERA and 1.86 WHIP this season.
Ender Inciarte, ATL vs. NYM ($3,000): Inciarte is one of the rare players who still makes a go of it as a base stealer these days. He's already swiped 18 bags in only 50 games. The 27-year-old also has a career .390 slugging percentage, so he has a little bit of power. P.J. Conlon is pretty clearly the worst starting pitcher taking the mound Monday night, so Inciarte could certainly get on base, and if he does another stolen base could be in the cards.
