FanDuel MLB: Monday Value Plays

FanDuel MLB: Monday Value Plays

This article is part of our FanDuel MLB series.

Monday's DFS action starts at 7:05 PM EST with no games during the day and a healthy 13 games featured for the main slate. There's no Coors Field game but there is a game in Arlington, and Globe Life Park turns into the Coors of the American League with the hot temperatures. There are only a couple of stud pitchers to consider, and the batters are best picked considering the different lefty/righty splits for each matchups.

For those interested, we've started an MLB DFS Slack channel for paid RotoWire subscribers. (There is a season-long one as well.) To join those channels, e-mail support@rotowire.com.

PITCHER

Luis Severino, NYY at TB ($11,600): Corey Kluber would be in play except he just had an injection in his knee and, prior to the All-Star break, had four straight starts under 34 fantasy points. Severino has been remarkably consistent this season with at least 34 fantasy points in 15 of his 19 starts including performances of 58, 58, 61 and 67. The Rays rank in the bottom half of the league in wOBA (.315), ISO (.136) and strikeout rate (22.5 percent) against right-handed pitching.

GPP Fade: Patrick Corbin, ARI at CHC ($8,700): Corbin averages the third-most fantasy points out of any starting pitcher on this slate, but he has a terrible matchup against the Cubs. Chicago has a .330 wOBA against left-handed pitching, good for seventh best in the league, while striking out 21.7 percent of the time (13th best). Corbin has also struggled more on the road for his career, allowing a .331 wOBA.

Cheap GPP Consideration: Sean Newcomb, ATL at MIA ($7,100): Newcomb slowed down a little bit before the break but still averages over 30 fantasy points per contest on the season. The Marlins have the fifth worst wOBA (.298) against lefties and strike out at a league-average 22.5 percent. Zack Wheeler ($8,500) is worth consideration as well at home against the Padres, although he's more expensive and there's a threat of rain in that one.

FIRST BASE/CATCHER

Wilmer Flores, NYM vs SD ($2,500): Happy Wilmer Day! Flores is home and going up against a lefty, making him basically an auto-play. There's little reason not to use him and with the new Fan Duel format this season, using another 1B/C in the Utility slot is still in the mix. Flores has only a .275 wOBA against southpaws this season, but his last three seasons see that mark at .355, .401 and .455. He'll likely be hitting against Eric Lauer, who has allowed a .362 wOBA to right-handed hitters this season.

SECOND BASE

Jason Kipnis, CLE vs PIT ($3,200): Kipnis is a way to get a left-handed piece of the Cleveland lineup without paying a ridiculous amount. While his .221 batting average on the season doesn't jump off the page, he has gotten better as the season has gone on as evidenced by his .924 OPS over his last 30 games. Kipnis has a .360 wOBA for his career at home against right-handed pitching, and Trevor Williams has had a worse ERA on the road in all three seasons he's been with the Pirates (4.79 this season).

THIRD BASE

Adrian Beltre, TEX vs OAK ($2,500): This might be near an all-time low price on Fan Duel for Beltre. There's still plenty of gas left in the tank for the future Hall of Famer, and he owns a .352 wOBA against left-handed pitching this season. He holds at least a .393 wOBA against lefties in four of his last five seasons and those numbers are higher when hitting at home. Brett Anderson has struggled the last three seasons against right-handed hitters and this season's wOBA in that split sits at .422.

SHORTSTOP

Andrelton Simmons, LAA vs CWS ($2,900): The Angels make for a great stack tonight going against Lucas Giolito, who has struggled all season. Simmons has been a pleasant surprise at the dish, hitting .306 and averaging just under 10 fantasy points per game. Giolito has given up a .354 wOBA to opposing teams, and that goes up 10 points when he's pitching on the road this season.

OUTFIELD

Chad Pinder, OAK at TEX ($2,500): Pinder has progressively gotten better against LHP in his three-year career, posting a .276, .316 and now a .344 wOBA against them. He typically moves up in the batting order against lefties, and there have been some high-scoring games as of late in Texas. Cole Hamels has given up a .344 wOBA to right-handed hitters this season, a mark that goes up to .380 in Arlington.

Teoscar Hernandez, TOR vs MIN ($3,400): Hernandez is an interesting play, as he'll probably go under the radar tonight especially at his price. He's done excellent work this season against left-handed pitching with a .362 wOBA, and he's been hitting third against that handedness. Adalberto Mejia has struggled during his time with the Twins, giving up a .351 wOBA to right-handed hitters.

UTILITY

Chris Davis, BAL vs BOS ($2,300): Davis has shown signs of life recently and has hit six home runs over his last 30 games. He'll be at home Monday in the hitter-friendly confines of Camden Yards and has hit better there than on the road going all the way back to 2012. Davis has a good history against Rick Porcello with four home runs in 47 career at-bats.
