Bowen (suspension) will no longer play basketball at the University of Louisville, per the school's release.

Bowen has been on an indefinite suspension from the basketball program due to his unique recruiting situation that tied him to the recent FBI probe in college basketball. With all the scandal that has plagued the Louisville program in recent years, the organization will play this one safe and not allow Bowen -- who recently hired an attorney -- to suit up in a Cardinals uniform. Per the school's statement, Bowen will receive written permission to contact other schools, and can still attend school via scholarship if he wishes. It's unclear at this point if Bowen will look to transfer, or pursue professional opportunities.

Bowen (suspension) has hired an attorney in an effort to be be reinstated to the Lousiville basketball program, The Courier-Journal reports.

In the wake of college basketball's latest pay-for-play scandal, Bowen -- one of the Louisville players implicated in the investigation -- was suspended indefinitely by the program. Though he was not explicitly named in the FBI report, Bowen's unique recruitment accurately fit the description, and Louisville confirmed later in the week that he had been suspended. It doesn't appear the five-star freshman will be going down without a fight, as he's retained Jason Setchen for legal counsel, the same attorney that successfully reinstated Miami basketball player DeQuan Jones in 2011. It's too early to gauge Bowen's chances of success, but in the meantime, Louisville will move on under newly-instated interim head coach David Padgett. The team started formal preseason workouts Sunday.

Bowen has been suspended indefinitely and will not be able to participate in Louisville team practices and workouts, Jeff Greer of The Courier-Journal reports.

Bowen finds himself in the spotlight early this week following a federal investigation into alleged pay-for-play schemes in college basketball. Though no coaches from the beleaguered program have been arrested or charged, the U.S. Attorney's release makes it quite clear that the Louisville program is heavily involved, pointing to Bowen's unique recruiting situation. ESPN's Jeff Goodman has already reported that head coach Rick Pitino will be placed on administrative leave, and that the school is expected to announce an interim coach in short order. A small forward from Michigan, Bowen is a consensus five-star recruit that didn't commit to Louisville until late in the process, June 3 to be specific. The federal report allegedly has evidence of Bowen's family agreeing in May 2017 to a payment of $100,000 from Adidas to secure his commitment to the program, an Adidas-sponsored school. The report ultimately will conclude that Bowen is far from the only player linked to this investigation, but he'll be one of the first to deal with a suspension as a result.
