McGriff will redshirt during his freshman season in 2019 due to a shoulder injury, Zach Braziller of the New York Post reports.
ANALYSIS
McGriff had been practicing with the team on a regular basis up until earlier this week when he underwent an MRI which revealed that he'd been playing with a pretty serious shoulder injury. The issue, apparently, could have a critical impact on his future in basketball if he didn't take care of it immediately. McGriff was anticipating being role player as part of the rotation off the bench and as a gritty defender, should fit well into Head Coach Mike Anderson's pressing system. McGriff's loss stresses the importance of Cleveland State transfer Rasheem Dunn getting a waiver to play this season, otherwise, the Red Storm's backcourt could be looking pretty thin heading into the season. For now, the freshman guard will focus on getting healthy and supporting his teammates in any way he can from the bench.
