Yahoo DFS Hockey: Thursday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Hockey series.

You'll have plenty of options Thursday with 10 games on the docket. If you need some help sifting through all those players to find ones to target and avoid, here a few to look at…

GOALIE

Ben Bishop, TAM at BUF ($33): Bishop's numbers are still bad and the Lightning just lost Steven Stamkos. However, there is still reason to like Bishop's chances of getting a win here. The Sabres have lost five in a row, and they've only scored 30 goals in 16 games. Unless the wheels totally come off for Bishop, he should be fine in this matchup.

GOALIE TO AVOID

Martin Jones, SAN vs. STL ($34): Jones has been alright this season with a .913 save percentage, but that's far from impressive. The Blues haven't been great offensively, but they have players like Vladimir Tarasenko and Alex Steen that can go off at any time and will be at home against the Sharks. It's not a terrible matchup for Jones, but there aren't really any bad matchups among the higher priced goalies. You can do a bit better.

CENTER

Vincent Trocheck, FLA at TOR ($18): Trocheck is off to a solid start, with six goals and four assists in 16 games. He's also averaging more than 20 minutes per game for the first time in his career, and he's playing more than three minutes a night on the power play. Toronto has struggled

CENTER

Vincent Trocheck, FLA at TOR ($18): Trocheck is off to a solid start, with six goals and four assists in 16 games. He's also averaging more than 20 minutes per game for the first time in his career, and he's playing more than three minutes a night on the power play. Toronto has struggled at goal prevention, and Trocheck is a very reasonably priced option.

CENTER TO AVOID

Patrice Bergeron, BOS at MIN ($24): The Wild have allowed 29 goals in 15 games and have been getting great goaltending from Devan Dubnyk. That alone is reason to be a little down on Bergeron. The fact he only has four points in 13 games doesn't help either.

WING

Patrick Eaves, DAL vs. COL ($16): Eaves is one of the biggest surprises to start the season, as the veteran has 13 points, six of which have come on the power play. It's not a total fluke, as he's averaging 3:30 per contest with the extra man. Colorado's nominal starter Semyon Varlamov has a 3.01 GAA and .904 save percentage, which makes it seem like Eaves' surprise start has a good chance to continue.

Nikolaj Ehlers, WPG at PHI ($17): The Flyers are dead-last in goals allowed, so anytime a player is going up against them it's reason for excitement. Ehlers already has 16 points in 18 games, and he's Winnipeg's top left wing. Winnipeg has some real talent on offense now, and they have a great matchup tonight as well.

WINGS TO AVOID

Zach Parise, MIN vs. BOS ($26): Parise just returned from injury, and while it would be speculation to say that he needs to shake off some rust, what is clear is that Boston's Tuukka Rask has a .945 save percentage. Despite this, Parise is one of the priciest wings Thursday. There are definitely better values, including players who are arguably just as good with better matchups.

Alex Killorn, TAM at BUF ($18): Killorn got off to a hot start, but he has zero points in his last seven games. His actual level of play is probably somewhere between his strong start and his current cold streak, but he's hard to get excited about right now. On top of that, while the Sabres struggle to score, they've gotten very good goaltending from Robin Lehner (.921 save percentage).

DEFENSEMEN

Erik Johnson, COL at DAL ($19): Johnson doesn't have any goals, but he has seven assists, including four on the power play. Additionally, he's taken 31 shots on goal, so eventually he should find the back of the net, and he's also blocked 39 shots. The Stars also struggle at goal prevention, so the odds of Johnson finally lighting the lamp are even better than usual.

Keith Yandle, FLA at TOR ($18): Like his teammate Trocheck, Yandle gets to go up against a Toronto team that has allowed 57 goals in 16 games. Yandle doesn't have a goal yet, but he's taken 43 shots on net and he has eight assists.

DEFENSEMEN TO AVOID

P.K. Subban, NAS at OTT ($24): While Subban's track record is impeccable, he only has three goals, and he's only taken 34 shots on goal in 15 games, which feels a little low for him. More to the point, Ottawa's Craig Anderson has a .934 save percentage. He's the third most expensive defenseman Thursday, so it is going to be hard for him to be a good value.

Torey Krug, BOS at MIN ($19): Like Bergeron, Krug has to go up against the Wild and Dubnyk. On top of that, Krug only has four points in 16 games. Sure, he's taken 51 shots on goal, so the offense will come, but a lot of pucks aren't getting past Dubnyk so far. It's unlikely for this to be Krug's breakout game.
